....Excerpts....

Chief executive Jim Buckmaster said in a blog post Wednesday that although Craigslist had removed the erotic ads the attorney general for South Carolina, Henry McMaster, was still threatening to take action against the site.

So Buckmaster said Craigslist has filed suit against McMaster in federal court in South Carolina seeking a “restraining order with respect to criminal charges he has repeatedly threatened against Craigslist and its executives.”

McMaster has accused Craigslist of promoting prostitution and made demands that the Craigslist CEO said would effectively force the San Francisco-based company to shut down entirely in South Carolina.

-----

“Until Craigslist gets serious about putting real protections in place, it will continue to be an environment where criminal operations thrive with impunity,” [US Attorney General Andrew] Cuomo said.

“Today’s arrests underscore the inherent risks posed by Craigslist and, most importantly, the need for protections that are full-fledged, not half-baked,” he said.

-----

After shutting down its “erotic services” section under pressure from state law enforcement authorities, Craigslist opened a new “adult services” category with all ads being screened by hand to discourage those promoting prostitution.

.....Exercepts.....

In 1986, McMaster was the Republican Party's nominee for the United States Senate. He was defeated by popular incumbent Ernest F. "Fritz" Hollings. In 1990, he ran unsuccessfully as the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor. In 1991, he was appointed by Governor Carroll A. Campbell, Jr. and confirmed by the South Carolina Senate to serve on the Commission on Higher Education. He served on the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Policy Council from 1991 through 2003, serving as board chairman from 1992 until 1993.

In 1993, McMaster was elected chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party and was re-elected by the State Republican Convention in 1996, 1998 and 2000. He also served as a member of the Republican National Committee from 1993 until 2002. As party chairman, McMaster worked to help elect hundreds of Republicans to federal, state and local office. His leadership was instrumental in electing Republican majorities to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1994 and South Carolina Senate in 2000.

Henry McMaster has not formally announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Governor but is expected to do so. His candidacy for governor was mentioned in a Washington Post article and referenced his attempts to halt Craigslist.org from posting "Adult" ads for South Carolinians as a publicity stunt and mentioned possibly backlash from the internet community. [2] In a recent online poll in South Carolina, McMaster placed 4th with 16% of the vote.

If I recall correctly, there was a Former AG in New York who had a "Holy'r than thou" attitude, often going after working girls. If I'm not mistaken, Elliot "mee soo horny with lots of cash" Spitzer is now known as #9.

It's only a matter of time until something in Good ol' Bubba McMaster's past catches up with him. He's a politician, he's gotta be guilty of something.
