Ok, you may think I should know this but I still want to ask the question. What is the exact difference between a TS and a TV. The reason I ask is a TV is visiting my area and is extremely beautiful.  I think she may have mixed reviews but here is her link.

http://eros-la.com/files/ny-farah43-farah1.htm

My understanding is a TS is a person who lives her entire life as a female and may take hormones, etc to help with the transition.

Then I have been told a TV is not a crossdresser but a person who lives as a female but may not have breasts and takes no hormones.  Is that correct?

Based on the pics above at the link provided, I'd think that girl is 110 percent passable and just as hot as any TS girl.

Do I have it right or am I missing something?

Thanks for responding....

I have been readin, listening and drooling for a couple years so here is my take. A TS is a lady that lives as a girl full time and you won't find her sporting a wig unless it may be extensions.  99% of your porn ladies are TS's whether they have A's of HHH's. They are full time look like, behave like and sound like girls.
Simply put a TS is a girl with outdoor plumbing.

A TV is just a tad more than a cross dresser. Work by day as a man and then get dressed and play lady. To me HUGE difference. One is super desirable and the other is almost repulsive.  Being real new to biting the bullet or cannon I can say that after being with two 7-8"s, a genuine 9 1/2 big and a 10" super size, I was sitting in a club and I found all of the TS's very nice to super hot. I would gladly have become a gang cum slut right there. The TV's were guys with dicks and women's clothes and wigs. A cheap imitation for sure. Four down and a zillion to go.

Great question LATS.
That was exactly what I thought as well and have explained to others but would like to know for sure and would definitely like to be corrected if wrong..
Really looking forward to the feedback.
And two more related questions.
1. What/who is the ultimate authority and how/why? i.e. is it the TV/TS community or is it Webster's or is it the AMA?
2. What is the Etymology (origin, history and evolution) of TV and TS?

Most people, including me hate asking a question in fear of being embarrassed or looking dumb.  Again gotta thank LATSdog for having enough self worth/self confidence to ask such a question as Moderator of this board.  That really takes a lot of balls and deserves respect.

I'm gonna though in a back of salted pretzels to the offer!!!!!!

A night on the town, drinks, salt pretzels and the girl of my choice?  Just checking?  If so, that sounds awesome.  When and where do I sign up or meet ya?

Yeah, well, that check would bounce on account  you only got 2 otta 4 right. However being right 50% of the time is damn impressive.

Drinks for the night and a bag of salted pretzels are correct.  Hell make it a large bag of pretzels! Regarding the other two I don't think you need any help from me to rip up the town or get women. My inexperience would only be a hindrance and amusing fodder for the board.

LATSDog1348 reads

just messing w/ ya. Sounds like a plan.  I'll even drink well drinks since we are in a recession :)

No, no no.
There's no letting me off the hook.
I'm not asking for mercy or clemency.
I made the offer and will stick to it.
You drink whatever and as much as you want.

However you're responsible for your own women and fun and all salted pretzels in excess of the first large bag which I reserve the right to buy ahead of time at Costco.

Its a deal and thank you for the offer. That is quite nice of you.  Have a great evening and enjoy Sunday and Presidents Day.

Per Outlook's question:
(2) What is the Etymology (origin, history and evolution) of TV and TS?

From Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_Hirschfeld
Magnus Hirschfeld
Around 1900, Hirschfeld developed the theory of a third, "intermediate sex" between men and women. He was interested in the study of a wide variety of sexual and erotic urges, at a time when the early taxonomy of sexual identity labels was still being formed. His scientific work extended that of Karl Heinrich Ulrichs and influenced Havelock Ellis and Edward Carpenter.

Hirschfeld was both quoted and caricatured in the press as a vociferous expert on sexual manners, receiving the epithet "the Einstein of Sex". He saw himself as a campaigner and a scientist, investigating and cataloging many varieties of sexuality, not just homosexuality. He coined the word "transvestism," for example.

Transvestites, published in 1910

Great contribution of link and info tsCAT99.
Thanks

My sense here, complimenting the posting by outlook and LATSDog's initial comments are a TS is committed to the lifestyle and transformation and 24/7 leads the life and flavor of the opposite gender (i.e. - is a woman 24/7 inside and out, with the corresponding changes to physical appearance on a permanent basis, etc) while a TV enjoys the variation of appearance, but remains predominately their original gender in public life, with occassional shifts to the other side for enjoyment and social explorations.  Count me in on that evening out fella's - I'll bring my wallet and my notepad - this could be very educational hanging out with you 2!!!

Hey, doggie, you just asked a question with a thousand answers.........:)

I'm a crossdresser and am active on other boards for that.  It seems that there are quite a number of abbreviations: CD, TG, TV, TS and so on.  Plus, there are the gay and lesbian orientations.  And, there are the F2M CD's as well.

Whew!  What an incredible spectrum--if that's what it is.  Some people get extremely irate on other boards about this question, even if one calls it a spectrum.

Being a CD and bisexual, I sometimes categorize myself as being a part of the TG realm (transgendered).  For me, this is an orientation with no regard to plumbing.  I don't know, I guess I think of it as the mother of all categories.

[I started a very lengthy post and decided, ugh, keep it simple.]

If, for some reason, I was ever to do the escort thing, there's no way in my mind that I could categorize myself as TV or TS, and I'd stay away from TG, just to be clear.

It just seems to me that having boobies and doing the hormones takes it to a different level.  That person is socially out there up front and center. And, that alone, in our paranoid society, deserves admiration.  It's one of the MANY reasons I just adore and respect the TS!!!!!

So, are these designations for.....the orientation?.....the plumbing?.......the sex?

Oy vey.  What a headache!

For myself, I always go back to Cyndi Lauper: Girls just wanna have fun!

This is a question with a 1,000 answers.  Perhaps ask the "lady" herself as to why she categorizes herself as a TV rather than a TS.  My very limited, and probably wrong, perspective is that TS's have gone the implants/hormones route where as TV's haven't taken either of those steps.  That being said, there are some very attractive TV's.

LATSDog1323 reads

Agree.  My thoughts and perception between the two are in line with you.  Yes, there are many attractive tv girls however I have found that a TS, born in her body and transitioning to a female or as close as possible to be the ultimate. Typically more fem than the hottest sexy gg model, if you ask me.  But again, only my opinion.

Enough....Nobody even asked what the difference in all of that and a shemale is???
Thnk the people who apply the abreviations to their particular orientations do so for their own identities....Ther ie a reason the smoking hot blonde that LATSDOG wants to bang calls herself a TV.  Think you hang out with her and find out.... YOUR ELECTED LATSDOG.... GO FOR IT AND LET US KNOW!

Hi sweetheart,

I saw your post--what a great question to ask. In my experience the vast majority of these categories are quite subjective and have changed quite a bit over time. Many people now use the umbrella term "transgendered" to describe both transsexuals and transvestites.

I think it's best to let someone self-identify themselves as TS, TV, CD, etc rather than labeling them as such. That way you don't get into any silly debates over semantics with some crazed tranny! LOL

In all seriousness, to know the difference between a TS and a TV is to know the motivation behind the behavior exhibited.

A transsexual typically goes to great lengths to make herself--body included--a female. This typically involves surgery and hormones so she can live as a woman 24/7. Living and being recognized as a woman to oneself and to society is the goal.

A transvestite is someone who dresses up occasionally--possibly as hobby or as a means of employment. Typically there is no burning desire to be recognized as a full-time female. However I have seen TVs who have very feminine features such as arched brows, long hair, and even some surgery such as nose jobs, cheek implants, and pumped up asses. There are some TVs like the one you linked to who look just as good or even better than some TSs, so you wouldn't be able to tell based on looks alone. The key is that a TV would typically still self-identify herself as male at some point when she is not in drag whereas a TS would always identify herself as female.

Often the two can me mixed up because people may come across a TS who looks atypical because she may not have the genetics or the financial means to look typically "female". On the other hand, someone who is a TV may look very typically female because they are just naturally pretty or have more financial means to do so.

As I mentioned it's always best to ask a person how she would identify herself. If that's not possible, it's safer to use the "transgender" term as it's more encompassing and inclusive.

Hope this helps!

Aloha,

Brooke

Great read - and by the way - you're a cutie!!!  Love the look....xo
