Every time I read a post that says "I read somewhere someone that is known has/done something"  

Now granted I hate rumors like the next fella but still, its like knowing something about nothing

The info is out for those that want to play safe, but it's not a big public smear (as it still may be gossip)

The best way to disseminate useful information is to allow all of it to get out there, without censorship.  No one is obligated to anyone to withhold information, nor is it fair for anyone to judge the validity of the information in this public service business for the purpose of blocking its publication.  No one wants, nor is anyone served by people who have information (true, false or rumor) playing the role of 'protector' or 'censor'.

Members will determine for themselves who is providing useful information, who is only expressing an opinion and who is spewing worthless fabrications.  Trust fellow members, and trust public forums if they allow free posting by everyone (who obeys general rules of public discourse).  The freer the flow of information out there, good or bad, the the clearer the picture of the market, and the less time and money wasted.
