I take Descovy, daily. What does "On demand" mean? I read if Descovy is taken intermittently the body may develop an immunity to its efficacy rendering it useless in preventing HIV infection. Hooked up with one on Doxy only and told her Doxy is not an HIV prophylactic. Not sure if I was correct about that.
Doxy is short for doxycycline and it only prevents bacterial infections like syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea.
There is a regiment to where you can take a few prep pills before and after potential exposure to prevent infection. It isn't as effective as taking it full time but it is still fairly effective. I haven't heard of anything like an immunity developing due to intermittent testing. I just think it is most effective if you take it consistently vs inconsistently since it works best when there is a certain amount of the antiviral in your body. It also works best when levels are consistent etc.
