Over the last few weeks, there have been several threads that have probably crossed the line in terms of civility. I haven't actively moderated them.
I struggle with whether to legistlate politeness here. On one hand, I don't want to water the place down. These are emotional issues and its important for that emotion to show on the boards. I, for one, am famous with my friends for the love of a healthy, heated debate.
On the other hand, insults, name calling, etc. waste the reader's time and probably alientate people from the board. I surf several unmoderated message boards and it is a total pain and waste of time to sort thru all the nonsense to get real 411. This place is and will always be more buttoned down in comparison, but the issue is just how much.
If anyone has an opinion on this, please post of send me a personal mail. I will also tee it up in the chat room tonite.
Answer, I think you have a tough enough job without worrying about being PC. I say we are all adults and should have a thicker skin. We all need to lighten up a bit and not take things so personally.
I agree with wantats, but I would add that we should also try to be civil and intelligent and remember that it's all too easy to hit that post button and regret it afterwards.
