... in a thread on my Meet n Greet board, a atatement was made that referenced a party attended by TS TG TV and CD

ok, so i know they mean transsexual, transgender transvestite and cross dresser.

where i am confused, is if these are all unique niche categories, or are they redundancies?

transvestite versus cross dresser - isnt that the same thing?

transsexual versus transgender - again, aren't we talking about the same concept?

please educate this old "live and let live" hetero horndog. I always though I understood the fundamental differences, but now, what with every individual seeming to have their own unique niche in society, I'm not sure.

I'd rather admit to ignorance and learn, then open my mouth and sound stupid.

I don't know of a better source of info on the subject than right here. Thanks in advance for the insight.

Whattarya askin'?  What all the abbreviations mean? I ain't following you.

lol >

Transvestites are men that wear Womens clothing becuase its sexually arousing , They Live as and Are men.

Cross-dressers Generally dress as the oposite gender because they enjoy it , or it somehow sooths them, They live as men or women , but sometimes role play as though they where of the other gender.

The Lines Between Definition of Transsexual and Transgender tends to differ person to person ,
But both live their lives as women or are socalially identified as female. ( or male in the case of Females2Males )

Hope that helps defog it alil for you . If you need further clarification , I suggest google search. lol

But, as I told TSTempted in PM, i much prefer real feedback from real people who live the life, than some cold clinical diatribe.

Good to see you here Doc...It was great to have you as a moderator on the chicago board.

Here goes a response to your queries:
1. CD= guys dressing as girls
2. TV= in between CD and TV. May be just a cross dresser or may on the route to becoming a TS. It's in the TV's mind
3. TS= A person who thinks and feels like the opposite gender. Takes an effort to transform through dressing and surgical methods to the opposite sex. The person belongs to the opposite sex in his/her mind as well as in the eyes of the beholder. :)

Hi Doctor,

What a great question and I think you'll get slightly different answers depending on who you ask.

TST's answer is right on the money in my opinion.

I've heard transgender being used as an umbrella term that would include CDs, TVs, and TSs. I think it's a pretty safe and PC word to use that is all-inclusive.

I think the motivations and thought process underlying the behavior is where you'll find the difference between crossdressers, transvestites, and transsexuals.

I hear people using CD and TV interchageably in the same way people may use Asian and Oriental to mean the same thing. I would think most TS's would be offended to be referred to as a CD however, simply because most think of the definition as a crossdresser as a "man in women's clothes" and a TS certainly wouldn't think of herself (or himself) as simply "dressing up."

IMO a TV someone who is more out and serious about her presentation as a woman--like a professional gender illusionist who works as queen but lives as a male the rest of the time. Most TVs I know have TONS of dresses, makeup, wigs and the like and know exactly how to use it all. Most CDs I know on the other hand, have a just a few pieces of select clothing.

Usually hormones and surgery would seperate TV's from TS's but I've seen some seriously fierce TV's who have surgery on their face and body to perfect their presentation. I think the major difference is that a TV doesn't want to be a woman full-time so any surgery she has wouldn't include breast surgery or full sexual reassignment surgery.

Of course as a natural born woman, I fully support a TG individual's right to call herself (or himself) whatever he or she may like. LOL

Aloha,

Brooke
