So, my answer is yes, the cheap plastic kind, and the day before a date.

I've been shaving my balls and the area below the balls down to the asshole for years. The best way to avoid irritation is take a long hot bath immediately before you shave. This makes a tremendous difference in reducing razor burn and increasing the closeness of the shave. I use a Gillette Fusion razor that has multiple blades and also vibrates. I usually use a gel form shave cream.

There can be a lot of itching after shaving the area below the balls if you've never done it before. But after a few times this goes away. The first few times I did it, the itching was pretty severe; now I don't get it at all.

.....which works fine for me, but some find it irritating and have allergic reactions.  A 5min soak with Nair before hoping in the shower does the trick.
