Taking your questions in order:

Is 55 viable? Yes, 55 is viable for attracting *some* 18-22yos. My profile shows 55.  

Real birthday? I don't use my real birthday, but it's only a few months off (just because why give the site my actual birthday?).

Does 55 scare them off? I usually let a lady approach me, at least with a favorite if not a message. But the younger ones don't approach as much so I have to do the approaching if I want them. It takes more work to find a younger one I'm interested in being with, and they do ghost or flake significantly more often than girls even 3-5 years older. I think some of the ghosting/flaking is because at the moment of truth of actually getting in the car or whatever, they get weirded out by meeting someone so much older. OTOH, I've had some amazingly mature young ones who view the whole thing as an adventure and seem to actually take comfort in doing something kinda scary with someone they're convinced is mature, experienced, and who is going to take care of them and make them feel special. Or maybe they think someone our age is more likely to "sweep them off their feet." Who knows? I find it takes considerably more messaging to get a younger girl to that stage of comfort.

Where to meet? I've almost always gone BCD on the first meet (if we go BCD at all). I've made some exceptions but not before discussing expectations pretty clearly. It's worked well for me to take her to a fancy restaurant that there's no way she'd be affording by herself. A real treat for her. If it really bothers her to be seen with me, it's probably not going to work. Same thing with a fancier hotel or room than she would go to on her own. I've found it helps to make friends with a waiter or two who knows exactly how to treat us and even not to card her if she wants a drink (I've never asked for that, it's just been done for me). One waiter, when I was with two 19yos at dinner, has even offered me a "room with more privacy" the next time we were at his steakhouse but I haven't been able to take him up on that. When meeting at the hotel, or just going to the hotel, I always just meet her and walk her up and act like "of course I'm meeting this girl and walking her up because that's what a gentleman does." If she wanted to come up by herself, though, I would let her.

I did have one date where we agreed to a fancy lunch at a fancy place and then BCD. But she didn't like the restaurant when she arrived because it was "too open." I was ticked, but stayed on target and got us into a place around the corner with a more private table. She still didn't like it very much, but nevertheless she was naked in my bed in less than two hours.

A few times, especially for lunch dates, she's changed her mind beforehand and said something like, "Is it ok if we just skip the restaurant and meet at your hotel?"   And once they become a regular, they usually don't need the fancy meal anyway.

Special note: Some of these 18-22yos don't own decent enough clothes to wear to nicer establishments without embarrassing you. Some of them know this and some don't. That has to be managed if you go the fancier route.

I doubt I'd use the site if 18-22yos were the only offerings because they are more work, but when they approach me first, or if I see a particularly spectacular one, it's worth it.

I prefer to date the youngest women on SA.  I'm a few weeks away from my 74th birthday.  I always post my actual age.  There's a percentage of young women who seriously prefer dating older guys and think we are very hot, sexy, attractive, etc.  I do not know why this is so, only that it is.  So I simply accept this reality happily and tell em straight up how old I am and give them a chance to find me.  It's true that many young women refuse to date "grandpas" but others truly prefer them!  If a girl's profile does not make her age preferences clear, I simply ask in my first message how she feels about the age gap.  I let them self select. There are some girls who truly prefer older guys, so why not attract them?

Some are fine with, and even enjoy, going out, travel, living an expensive lifestyle they cannot afford  - and getting laid by a guy 2 to 3 times older then she is. Some are happy, or at least willing, to just to have sex for allowance, but are not interested or actively do not want, the non-BCD time. I find the 'Bang and Bail' arrangements don't last as long, which for me is sad, but for others here, it may be perfect.  

 
Where to meet?  Depends on many factors. But mostly it's a factor of your strategy. Are you looking for dating & fucking or just fucking? The former suggests you go a bit slower and plan out nice meetings in nice places. Except I’m 47...but I think abt that 50 age “line” from time to time.
