Tinderization of SA

Reminds me of Tinder. It's such a waste of time to swipe through dozens of profiles. This is Brandon's attempt to keep his cash cow out of FOSTA-SESTA crosshairs so that he can pay for his 22 year old grand-daughter/wife.

As Seeking appears to be continuing to "improve" the search function and profile pages using a "less-is-more" approach (Hint: Less is actually NOT more, dammit!), I find myself once again wishing for a few additional filter settings in search:

1. A BBL filter.  For the love of all things under the sun, I just can't stand that grotesque Kardashian-Troll giant ass look.  Seriously, WTAF?  I was recently favorited by a Latina POT with an ass that had to be at least 35 inches wide, while her waist had to be less than 24 inches. Why? Who wants to (or even can?) put their schlong into a fat-filled, cottage-cheese speckled, tramp-stamped caboose like that? No. We need a checkbox filter called "BBL-Yes" which I will super glue in the off position.

2.  Same country filter. Only show profiles accessed from the same country (For the techies out there, this is IP Class C filtering). Self-explanatory.  Yes, a VPN may defeat this, but it will still help a lot.

3. Language translator.  If you live in a southern border state (like Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, California, etc.), it is possible that you will see a legit POT who only speaks Spanish. And who doesn't want to take a spicy 19-year-old caliente 'Chica' BCD for a few thousand MX Pesos? (Current US/MX exchange rate:  2,000 pesos = 112 dollars.) On the other hand, if your views, favorites, and messages are full of "Soy una Chica" from all over south America, you may want to clear the fog away by excluding these useless time wasters.   A simple filter and switch can help: Filter Profile Text Options with a list of languages, and Translate profile text to with a list of languages.  Easy peasy!

Thoughts and ideas?

You mentioned the large hips/butt. Did they remove the slim and athletic filter? I took a break from SA. Also, the Latina SBs I meet have large bushes.

So far, they have not removed any of filter settings for body type: Slim, Athletic, Average, Curvy, Full Figure, and Heavyset remain.  Of course, it's up to the POT SB to decide what each of these settings mean, and it's not uncommon to see POT's using some creative logic when deciding which to use on their profile.

For the POT I saw with the giant ass and average waist, she put herself into the "Slim" category. I suppose that was accurate, if you only look at her from the waist up. LOL! But once you see that 45 lb. turkey she called her ass, you can't unsee it and you start to question you own perception of reality.

I can't see Seeking ever contemplating adding a personal grooming filter. That is way too hooker-ish for the site, and Seeking is working hard to ensure they are not perceived as a P4P site, at least in the eyes of LE.

I simply do not understand why so many useful features on SA have been eliminated.  We no longer can see when was the last time we viewed a profile. Or when she viewed ours. We no longer see the number of results per search.  I'm no computer genius, but it seems like once these features were in place it wouldn't cost anything to keep them running.  What possible way could eliminating them "improve" the site?

Interestingly, last viewed still exists in the Android mobile app, which I now consider more useful than the desktop version. Another item I find useful knowing what age range SBs are looking for. Even though I am of a certain age I still want to know if they are looking for substantially younger so as not to waste anyone's time. Again, this is still available in the mobile app but not the browser. But I know no such app exists for Apple. I'm sure Seeking will soon destroy the app as well.

I stand corrected on one note: I finally noticed that age limitations are included, if the SB chose them. But you have to really be looking for it. This still points to a problem that the site is not user friendly at all. It was so much better designed previously to find all this important information. Change for the sake of change if not always good.

I think you are correct, but not for the reason you suggest.

Seeking, like many other sites, went through huge revisions to their site with FOSTA/SETSA to keep them on the "right" side of the line. They hired LOTS of lawyers to do this and keep them on staff even today.

But the latest changes in the User Interface (UI) seem less about FOSTA/SETSA compliance than they do about something called "user engagement." Why is Tinder so popular? Besides the obvious motivation of the hookup mission, it's easy to use; swipe right or swipe left.  That means that virtually every user will end up looking at many, many profile pics before they ultimately connect with someone.  The Tinder app does not allow a user to set up sophisticated, targeted criteria to find that one (or few) optimized match(es) you want. Instead, the lack of control over what profiles a user sees means that almost every potential partner in your area will get a view on your screen, even if only for a second.

Now Seeking has been slowly removing features that provide secondary data (looks being the primary) to the user, (almost) forcing the user to do the Seeking equivalent of swiping right or left. (Correct me if I am wrong since I don't use an Android phone, but I think the Seeking phone app actually has a swipe right function now.)

Why would Seeking adopt this model? It's about SB retention and ultimately, revenue. As SD's we spend so much time thinking about how Seeking could optimize our search process (because it's awful!), but they also need to ensure that the SB's will stay at the party.  They must take time to optimize the SB experience so that it will drive increased views of their profiles by SD's. If an SB creates a profile and never sees any SD's viewing it, she will soon move on. And since there is an imbalance of SD's to SB's (the site's ads claim 4: 1), it's vital that they attract and retain more SB's at all times.

This fits our current observations of more scammers, GPS and less attractive profiles on the site. Surely, Seeking knows about these issues (they read reviews and blogs, too) and are motivated to find and retain more "legit" SB profiles at an increasing rate.

Conclusion: The people who run the site are ecommerce and internet experts. Seeking, like all serious internet businesses hire experts in user retention, user experience, user engagement, and most importantly user-generated revenue. Every change they make is now motivated by an expectation that it will drive increased revenue first. And the role of regulatory compliance (ala FOSTA/SETSA) is now just a checkpoint in the product development and release process.

What I don't understand is this:  If they are all about maximizing revenue, wouldn't that imply catering to the men's needs on the site first and foremost?  We are the ones spending money to be on the site.  The women join up for free.  I've discussed this with many of my SBs over the years and they are always amazed when I tell them it costs a guy over $1000 per year to be on SA!  If their revenue comes from us, you'd think they'd want to do what it takes to  nurture and retain the men's membership.  What am I missing?

You are seeing the chicken-egg question in Sugar terms.

First, the site needs SD's to pay the fees and keep the lights on, but;
Second, SD's need to see viable SB's to justify the $1,100 annual investment.

So they do a balancing act, trying to attract and retain SD's and SB's as much as possible.

What we do not see, but they do, is the user behavior data collected from testing that motivates which changes are adopted and which are tossed out.

PS: Brandon, or his team: I am available for hire as an ecommerce consultant with expertise in AB testing, conversion and engagement, payment flows, cart/checkout optimization, data security (PCI DSS) and consumer protection regs (Reg E, Reg Z, UCC, UDAP, etc.) Just putting that down here.   :P

Omigosh they should seriously hire you!  Maybe that's the only way to save Seeking Arrangement as we know it!

Brandon and SA should hire Herb - it would be the best money they ever spent!

Herb, if you get the gig and they promote you to VP, hire us and we'll take over and run the place!

There's gonna be some changes around here, Brandon!
