They Won't Talk On Phone But They'll Meet

This past week I got a lot of "They Won't Talk On Phone But They'll Meet" nonsense. Meaning, that in my initial texting with them on SA I got a lot of low-effort texting back from my initial reaching out to profiles I liked. The POTS typically text back 1-4 word low effort answers, then they push to meet. "Hi" "Hey wanna meet?"  

I'll say "I don't meet anyone until I talk to them on phone."  

They will typically respond with "I don't like to talk on phone." or they'll say "fine call me."  

So I'll set up a time to call them and then when I call I get the 'Google subscriber is not available' recording, leave a message.  

They never call back.  

The They Won't Talk On Phone But They'll Meet ploy is the prelude to the cash-app rinse on day of meet scam.  

You set the M&G up, then a few minutes before the meetup you get the rinse text requesting money for gas, babysitter, missed day of work, etc.    

There are also a lot of no shows as well, complete flake-outs with no courtesy call and then they ghost you.

The first time I got this it just sounded like a desperate seeker but the second time...it was the same message with just the days changed. So maybe an organized ring of some kind. Interestingly they take the time to write what seems like a genuine profile, unlike the pig butchering ones:

 
"I do want to be completely honest. I made this site for many reasons, but one being I’m struggling financially extremely badly. I have my younger brother with me until Sunday, so I’m unable to meet up until then but decided to give this a try. I am hoping to find someone who makes me want to delete this account asap and who would be willing to help me out a little until I can meet up after Sunday. I would be definitely willing to show you more of me in the meantime and whatnot. It’s just been rough. I have snap or text if you’d be down with that"

I get DMs on Twitter. Amazingly they live close by. But not too close and want to hook up for ridiculously low rates and of course will do anything. Then comes the ask for gas money....

The gas money ask is kind of lame, obvious.  They pick a small city a few hours drive from the main city -- so they'll need a tank of gas, supposedly.

This type of phrase is almost always a scammer play.  It appeals to the "Captain Save a Ho" complex in far too many men.  

 
"Please, you big strong rich man! Please rescue me from the ravages of dirty, mean other men who only want to use me as a cum dumpster. Instead, you can use me as your exclusive cum dumpster like a proper gentleman!"

I just got a bitcoin investor scam on seeking.  First red flag -- she initiated contact and as soon as I replied she wanted text number.  So her area code is Florida and claims she's been in Minnesota for 20 years. Says her name is Lisa.  She asks about my employment, etc and I ask about her interests.  Typical get to know each other.   She askes if I know about BTC.   I say I wouldn't invest in it, but might use it for payments.  She says she's investing in BTC.  I say good luck.  She says "fuck you."  I go what?  She says "you're paralized", "Your mother is dead. "

I think Lisa cracked up a bit there ...  obviously I short circuited her bitcoin scam, whatever it was going to be.  I quickly reported her to seeking before she could block me.

Does anyone really fall for those investing scams?

The last few I've seen also pushed hard to move to Wechat or Whatsapp asap. Free app for them, and it typically means they are outside the US, most likely in Asia.

Yours seemed to be a quick and dirty effort. But a lot of these gals do a long con -- they pretend to want to know you, send you pictures, ask for yours, and string you out over several weeks.  I've been strung along for a while, and the gals usually can't meet because they are traveling for business. The suggest they're wealthy enough so don't need your money, and they claim to have a tip from an "uncle." They'll show a screenshot of a trade where they made a killing and then offer to let you in... as soon as I hear anything about tips and trading, I'm out, but the skillful ones can string you along (they are probably run by a criminal organization in Asia).
