I know that evolutionary biology is not quite your forte, but why is it that in most species of animal, it is the male that has the fancy plumage or mane, or what-have-you; yet among humans (at least in western society) it is the woman who dons the fancy clothes, makeup, etc.?
Are there species where the female has to pay the male for mating?
This book answers a lot of questions for me and is one of the best that I have ever read concerning people. I will be thinking about this one for quite a long time.
