I have continued curiosity about pheromones.  Couple of questions for you and others.

Do you think that pheromones are released continuously, perhaps in response to being attracted to somebody and is there a monthly cycle to release?  In terms of "propagating the species"  I would think it peaks right at ovulation in women.  Us guys...it's probably steady state all the time.

Do you think, like if I'm in an elevator with 10 other guys, and I pick up a woman's scent, that the other 10 guys are all picking up the same thing?  I would suspect it might be a more individual thing, but I'm curious your thoughts.

Lastly, as per a previous post, I perceive a very specific scent from all women - I described it as a "sweet odor kinda like walking into a leather store".  Just like a fingerprint, I would assume the there to be individual variability, but I'm curious what others might say.

The research on pheromones has not yielded consistent results. Winifred Cutler did some work on it during the 1980s; others have advocated some pheromone sprays in lieu of perfumes to attract the opposite sex, but results were not supported by research.

As for the elevator situation, I believe it has to do more with dissimilar immune systems and DNA for an evolutionary match. In other words, some guys will be attracted to SOME women - those whose immune systems and DNA is most dissimilar to their own, for the benefit of the genetic fitness of the offspring.

That "sweet smell" you're picking up - that's estrogen for ya. Often, menopausal women whose estrogen levels are plummeting, have stated that their body odor has changed. It's in the sweat glands - testosterone provides for a much more "pungent" odor, which diminishes when estrogen rises.

I actually sell pheremone-laced products. I seem to have a better response to my new guys if I remember to wear them, and when I do "straight" massage I seem to get better tips. I know that's only anecdotal, and that it may be skewed by my OWN response to wearing the scent. But I swear by my pheremones!!
