the previous post about cunnilingus reminded me of a topic i've always been curious about: oral sex and the risk of contracting STDs (especially AIDS).
what r the risks, o wise and all-knowing Love Goddess, of contracting an STD from oral sex? what are the most effective methods to prevent transmission of STDs via oral sex? Whose at greater risk for contracting an STD from oral sex: men or women? are STDs contracted from oral sex any less harmful than those contracted during other forms of sex?
from my (obviously) limited knowledge, my understanding is that:
dental dams are not 100% effective in preventing STDs.
some STDs are NOT readily visible ON a partner, in the form of either a discharge or a sore.
women are at a DISPROPORTIONATE risk of contracting AIDS than men are.
Love Goddess, fellow board members, plz. weigh in on this all important topic w/any corrections/comments/criticisms you may have. thanks for reading.
Dear lololancer,
If you would like to read what others have said, you can use the search function for this board and type in "oral sex, BBBJ" and other key words, then go back in time about 700 days or so.
Otherwise, please familiarize yourself with this site, which I have provided as a link numerous times. According to my esteemed colleague, epidemiologist Clint Gould, PhD, the folks at the CDC do a pretty good job in keeping track of STIs and what causes them.
The rest is up to us screwers and screwees,
the Love Goddess
Not only use soap and water right after, but urinate as soon as possible as well.
Urinating helps to flush any bacteria that may have been introduced to the urethra.
I've gone to the site before and have read each entry they have. All make sense except the line in the 'Herpes' section where it says 1 in 4 women have it and 1 in 8 men do as well. If that is true for the general US population, wouldn't that stat turn to more like 1 out of 2 women and 1 out of 4 men in the hobby population. I find that so hard to believe even with all the care the ladies here take to stay safe if 1 out of every 4 (or 8) men coming through has it, how come there aren't girls dropping off the lists left and right, or guys broadcasting "so and so gave me an STD!"
Also, how can any 'long time' providers claim not to have it if they've seen 100's of men over a multi-year career? I'm assuming that if a provider(at least a quality one) caught one of the uncureable STD's they would have to bow out of the profession.
BTW. I'm not trying to insinuate that any of the ladies here have a disease...only questioning the logical conclusions I come up with when presented with those stats. Either I'm reading them wrong or the law of averages leans heavily in the hobbyist/provider corner.
SMEGMA!!
smegma, you make all of the sense in your post....but no replies. always something to think about. I have oftem wondered if someone would get out of the hobby if they contracted say herpes.....give up a high paying career to return to the rock yard.....?????
I have good news for you lololancer!
I have spoken with many doctors over the years on this very subject. I wanted to know why they weren't afraid to see providers. This is what they told me;
You can use the latest safety measures with all the bells and whistles you want.
Unfortunately, no one can be 100% safe every single time they have an encounter.
The best defense against STD's from their mouths to this post is ;
Use "SOAP and WATER" and I mean , right after.
It's that simple! Use the information and pass it on!
...on such a winter's day!"
damm, do i wish i was in LA (Cali) today, especially after seeing your (quite) TASTY link!!! i'll be dammed if u couldnt warm me up if i "we're in LA." i doubt u travel, at least for biz anyway. who'd want to leave sherman oaks? never been, but sounds like a nice place. whats the temp. out there today? like 80. try 20, sweetheart, w/windchill of 0!
what did that damm hedgehog (or whatever), puxatawney phil, say? 6 more weeks of winter?!?! sheesh?
anyway, to address my original reason for replying (b4 i was distracted by your lovely link), dont u think your partner would find it RUDE if u immediately proceeded to wash with "soap & water?" yes, i agree, the whole "soap & water" deal is perfectly logical and common sensical, but who said WE acted that way? most people choose to snuggle/hug/spoon (take your pick) after making love. the idea of IMMEDIATELY rushing off to wash might give someone the wrong impression, no matter how much sense it makes. thanks for responding and keep warm...oh, that's right, u dont need to keep warm, u already r! ![]()
Unfortunately that's what it takes to be safe. I wash within a very reasonable time, then come back for the cuddle. It only takes a minute when you get good at it!
I had a feeling these very confident doctors enjoying DFK's ,performing DATY and BBBJ's on providers were keeping a good secret. I couldn't believe it was that simple.
Look, when aids came into play we had to bring in the condoms. A litle soap and water doesn't seem so bad , now does it?
I'd rather be safe than sorry any day,
wouldn't you?
dear Kimbra and others...when syphilis is concerned, soap and water does little to protect an uninfected individual from an infected counterpart.
If you want to stay extremely safe, use a latex barrier between mucosal tissues,

Goddess, How prevelent is this disease in the general population.
How often do most ladies get tested?
Dear Bootzie58,
Please see link - you will get rates for not only syphilis, but for gonorrhea and chlamydia as well.
Your second question - I'm sorry, but there are no reliable statistics on this. We are dealing with an unregulated profession, so one can't expect "real" numbers to be provided. Please understand this: As long as prostitution remains illegal, unregulated and STIGMATIZED, it's going to be very difficult to ascertain FACTS. N.b. that I'm not necessarily a fan of legalization or government intrusion in women's lives more than has already happened throughout the centuries. In any event, that's not what this thread is all about anyway; if you want to know, ask each lady you consort with - but please be aware that she is not under any legal obligation to answer honestly.
Let's aaaalll take a biiiig collective breath here,

hilarious but damn sure seems the direction we are moving
Syphilis is transmitted through open sores. Put your condoms on, check where you're going before entering and use some good antibacterial soap and mouthwash right after any sexual contact.
Most providers,(with the exception of the drug useres) are some of the safest women to have contact with. It's there livelyhood they have to protect. They're just as worried about getting something from you, as you are them.
Interact with providers who who are clean, upscale and look like they take care of themselves.
If you follow these ideas, you'll be fine!
Dear Love goddess: I read the reports and quite frankly I totally agree with Kimbra. I know you can get alot of things out there with out covering up. Kimbra is right. Be clean and love the one your with, also be clean......
HPV can be transmitted by oral sex, and is thought to be one reason that oropharyngeal cancer can occur in non-smoking, non-tobacco chewing people (25% of those with oral cancer don't have other risk factors). Interestingly enough, the incidence increases with the increasing number of sexual partners one has had. Research is ongoing.
