Recently I was perscribed a new medication and it completly destroyed my sex drive. I spoke with my Doctor and he said we could adjust the dose but that was about it. I can get an erection and maintain one when stimulated I just don't have the desire. The DR. said the usual ED pills would not increase the desire. I have never had this issue and it is driving me crazy. I see lots of herbal remedies but allways thought they were a hoax. Are their any herbal remedies that have worked for anybody or does anybody have any suggestions?

ED drugs have nothing to do with helping your sex drive. They react with your body chemistry to make it physically easier to get sand maintain an erection. That's all they do. I don't have any suggestion other than to get a second opinion. I am on several medications and my doctor has taken great pains to try and find the right combination of meds to deal with a couple of chronic medical issues while helping me have a normal and active (very active!) sex life. There is often more than one approach and more than one medication available to solve a specific problem.  Good Luck to you.

An anti-depressant, perhaps? As to herbal remedies, they have not been subjected to large-scale studies, so it's difficult to say if they work for all and sundry. There's "Horny GoatWeed," there' "Damiana," there's "Yohimbine" (this one for erections mainly.)

Sexual desire can get affected by such diverse meds as antidepressants, antiandrogens (such as Proscar, Avodart and the like) and even Propecia (a very mild antiandrogen against hair loss).

I would suggest going to a health food store or a reputable store that sells natural supplements. Experiment. I'd be cautious buying on the Web, since you really don't know what's in some of those things, particularly pills made in China.

I would go back to the prescribing physician to adjust the dose, if you haven't already. Sometimes it's just that threshold that does it.

A few years back, after some very tough marital hell stuff, I went to a psychiatrist, told him of my symptoms and he gave me Lexapro. And yes I mean he gave it to me.....psch med docs get lots of free samples.

Well, that drug zobified me, took away mt mojo, and caused me to spontaneously ejaculate without the benefit of an orgasm!!

When I told the doc of the side effects, he started with changing the dose and adding Welbutrin. After some intense questioning, I understood what a crap shoot psych meds are.

I stopped taking the drugs and decided to handle my anxiety some other way. This hobby has gone a long way in helping in eliminating what's called "generalized anxiety disorder"- another topic for a new thread.

A second opinion is definitely in order- IMHO.

I'd be willing to bet that you'll find some people who have faced this and have some suggestions.

Don't ever count on doctors to have done this research.

I am in my mid-60s, have had my prostate out and need Viagra just to get erect.   But my sex drive is as strong as ever.   Just this week I saw 4 different providers in 4 days.   My  problem is performance, which even Viagra can't provide.   With less of a sex drive, I would have fewer frustrations.

Face it, we all have our own cross to bear.

Doctor should test you for your testostrone level in your blood. If it is below normal you can get meds or shots to get it back to normal..

Libido is directly related to testosterone levels, so have your doctor check them.. Also, in the meantime, there is a Bodybuilding suppliment that I've been taking for a couple of months now called "6-OXO." It is a natural test booster that you can buy in any GNC or vitamin shoppe - and believe me, it works. It took about a month to kick in but when it did, I was so horny that I started finding Rosie O'Donnell attractive!

Seriously though, have your testosterone levels checked first. That's the key.

I've had this problem also.  I'm 29yrs old and have had a high sex drive since sex was an option.  However, about a year ago I started taking a pill for hair loss - I'd like to keep my hair for a while longer.  This stuff just destroyed my sex drive.  I went from constantly thinking about sex to barely being interested.  I didn't have a problem performing when I needed to, but it was like I didn't care one way or another about women.  I'd say my sex drive got knocked down by more than 90%.  So my drive was about even with my wife's.  Which meant we were having sex even less than the little we usually did.  *sigh*  I did some research and saw that there were studies that concluded that some people could get the same result from using 1/4 to 1/3 of the prescribed dose, so I've been cutting the pills into thirds.   It helped a lot.  I'm not saying to do the same - I have no idea what you're taking.  The drug I'm taking is not necessary for physical or mental health.  But who knows, maybe yours isn't either.

I agree that psych meds are a crap shoot. And I only wish being a hobbyist was as helpful for my GAD., AHDH, and Depression. Alas it actually made the GAD (Generalized Anxiety), which would feed into the ADHD which would feed back into the GAD....etc  I think you get the picture...

However I did have similar zombification and no sex drive or capability to perform when on a moderate dose of Zoloft.  This was rectified by dropping the Zoloft dose and adding Wellbutrin.

And Agreed, Second Opinions are always in order! Sometimes a third. (I've got too many medical issues to list... I'm only 36 and have 24 years experience dealing with the medical system... YAY)

However, if you're on an antidepressant, and it keeps you functional, and being off it makes you non-functional, I'd be leery of just stopping out of the blue.
