Is it possible to love your partner but never actually have any type of intimacy with her? Like if you are single and you have a very close girl-friend who you really like because of personality and companionship, but not physical intimacy? In other words, is physical intimacy a requirement for true love?

In some languages there are multiple words for 'love' and each has a slightly different meaning and  use.  If you're limited to English then your question is understandable.  Language creates the framework for our thoughts.

You'll see in that reference that:

"The English word "love" can have a variety of related but distinct meanings in different contexts. Often, other languages use multiple words to express some of the different concepts that English relies mainly on "love" to encapsulate; one example is the plurality of Greek words for "love." Cultural differences in conceptualizing love thus make it doubly difficult to establish any universal definition."

The gist of the book is that love is a faculty that we must develop in order to practice same in an active way.

It is not a feeling that overcomes us (That is lust or infatuation.)

To that end there are many types of love that we are able to practice and they are all covered in this short and very readable book.
