LG some time ago you mentioned some research that someone did that could reverse the effects of plaque build up and high cholesterol. Can you refresh my memory. It had to do with a "certain diet"

The thoughts being that with good or better circulation (problem us old guys have 50+) that you can maintain an erection longer. Looking to make some healthy lifestyle changes to reverse the stupidity of our youth!

to monitor your carbohydrate intake as well. The Ornish diet is high in carbs; although complex carbs are better than simple sugars, the point is to get enough Omega 3 and other healthy fats" into your system that the strict Ornish diet may not allow for.

If you go vegan and add Omega 3, you will reduce your cholesterol. As to hard plaque, well, you can't reverse that with any diet. But you can reduce further build-up by avoiding animal fat - with the exception of fish oils.

Fish proteins, healthful oils, a small amount of complex carbs, no processed foods, legumes and other plant foods, no simple sugars - guaranteed to affect your cholesterol levels.

Happy whole body,

Not into fish and would appreciate any info on the best Omega 3 in pill form. Thank you.

Dear Jeff247,

I try not to "shill" for any particular brand, although I will say that the one in the link below fulfills a whole host of requirements.

Yes, I increased Extra virgin olive oil and olives in my diet too. The cholesterol numbers went down dramatically, esp. after reducing the simple carbs and increasing omega-3 oils.

One additional caveat re: fish oil supplements -- do NOT rely on the front label to tell you the content level of the EFAs. You will most likely see something like "1200 mg" on the front label and assume that you are getting 1200 mg of the sought after components EPA and DHA (the high-benefit components of the Omega 3-6-9 essential fatty acids).

Turn the bottle around and read the back label, looking specifically for the highest content of EPA  and DHA. Also pay attention to serving size (usually listed at the top of the rear label), as some servings are one softgel and some are more than one. You want to compare apples to apples --

Should you have issues with the dreaded "fish burps" (a bit of a fishy flavor an hour or two after taking the supplements that you don't like), try freezing the softgels and swallowing them. By the time they defrost, they will be through the stomach and into the intestines, thereby being absorbed and not giving you any regurgitation isssues.

I can vouch for that (mainly vegan + omega-3) - dramatic difference, esp, after I reduced simple carbs. For Omega 3, I used walnuts mainly, instead of fish oil. I also tried flax seeds, but incrwasing quantity caused skin eruptions (boils).

LG: How long after reduced cholesterol does it take to affect PE issues?

TheLoveGoddess2923 reads

that reducing cholesterol levels affect PE issues. The latest research regarding PE involves serotonin modulators. The issue with cholesterol is more related to overall health, which is related more to ED [erectile dysfunction.] But premature ejaculation is something else all together - see the link for what's being used.

Here is the latest info on Priligy - available in multiple European countries,

The Love Goddess

Thanks, LG. I meant to write ED. But the Priligy information was also interesting. Unfortunately, technical details were not accessible to me. Is it related to the serotonin factor?

I have heard that Vitamin K directs the calcium on your artery walls to go into your bones and teeth.  I am not sure how true this is but it might be worth a try.

Disclaimer:  I have no financial interest in Costco.
I have found the best value in Fish Oilis Kirkland brad at costco.  400 cupsules for about $11.
Dosage is 3 a day.  Consumers Reports has tested Kirkland (Costco) products and has always found them to be upto the claimed potency.

Everything LG said reflects exactly what my doctor has also told me but don't leave out the exercise!  The benefits of regular exercise on your circulatory system can be pretty darned amazing.  Exercise also helps your blood pressure and blood sugar numbers as well as just making you feel good. I have actually cut my Viagra dose in half since I began eating a healthier diet and walking 3 to 4 miles nearly every day.  You don't have to become a gym rat. Thirty minutes a day is all it takes! The effects definitely show themselves in the erection and department!

Not ED related (or maybe it is), but I can't resist addressing the myth that saturated fat consumption is connected to heart disease. It's a complete fabrication with no evidence.

Definitely agree with LG on sugar. That's the killer in Western diets. There really was no such thing as Alzheimers and other western diseases before our sugar consumption exploded in the 20th C.

Heart disease basically exploded along with the introduction of the "food pyramid" telling everyone to stop eating meat and start eating cereal.

I would check out the Taubes article linked.
