Too bad there aren't a group of UTR Pros that don't mind throwing a dinner onto the date for a low rate. I never double book. I take my chances, line up a pro for backup, or just keep the money and buy something for myself!
Have been somewhat successful on SA approaching when I am going to be in town within 24-48 hours and leading with, "It's likely not your thing, but ...."
... when I was travelling 5 or 6 times per quarter for work. Ultimately, I stopped trying because the ROI on time and schedule management wasn't worth the effort when I could just wait 2 days to come home and take my #1 or #2 out for some BCD time.
But my approach was a little different than yours: 1. Initial message was more like: I'll be there next week, and plan on returning once or twice a month. Are you interested in meeting to explore? 2. Cast a wide net: You may need to send 20 to get 4 replies. Then set up 3 M&G's over three days to get one or two BCD's. Then find that one out of 4 BCD's (in the last month) are good enough to want to repeat. 3. Be careful not to double-book yourself. This may be controversial. Some guys here will tell you to ALWAYS double book so you have a backup to avoid dead time. But my Plan B was to line up a pro as backup. May not be as much fun, but much more reliable.
With that strategy, I got plenty of BCD for allowances ranging from cheap ($200) to crazy expensive ($600). But I probably dropped an extra $300-400 in 1st date dinners, drinks, uber, etc. for each business trip.

Oh I was generally not returning either. In my experience, POT SB's (with the possible exception of UTR pros or semi-pros), do not want to appear like hook up whores only interested in a quick buck. So providing at least the appearance of a possible recurring deal makes them more comfortable. My best experience with that was meeting a smoking hot 22 year old Asian in Baltimore. She was drop dead hot, slim, perfect skin, clear eyes and great smile, and a tight-fit body. Her personality was demure and playful and I was hard as a rock all through a steak and wine dinner.
It wasn't until after she came out my hotel shower after crazy lust-filled BB fun that she told me she asked for that particular restaurant because she was only 18 and knew the bartender there would serve her booze. I almost blew another load on the bed right then.
Later she told me she was really afraid of being cast as a whore by her friend so she told the friend I was her new BF's grand father. Never saw her again.
on trips to CA, Phx, etc. My approach depends on how long I'll be in their area. If it's just one or two days, I really don't want to waste time with M&Gs, just want them to show up at my hotel for some BCD fun. So I start prospecting a week or two before the trip and tell them when I'll be in town. I always say that while I love long term, ongoing arrangements, short term, even one time things can be sweet and genuine. Then I ask if they'd be open to a playdate with an out of town visitor? If they say yes, we talk about specifics. I've enjoyed some really awesome dates while traveling that way.
