Guys I realize that this is not a medical forum so ignore me if you like. My primary care physician knows about my mongering/sugaring but has advised me NOT to get tested for herpes.  First of all the tests are very fallible with many false positives.  If you get a positive test you'll be worried, perhaps needlessly.  Secondly, herpes is now so prevalent that "It is estimated that, in the United States, 47.8% of people aged 14–49 have HSV-1, while 11.9% of Americans in the same age group have HSV-2 (Herpes Simplex Virus," therefore if you are sexually active you are no doubt already involved with partners that have herpes.  Thirdly, it used to be thought that one type gave you cold sores and the other genital sores.  But now both types can be responsible for either area of infection. Fourthly, herpes is a mild ailment that is not difficult to live with.  There are drugs available that can reduce the likelihiood of an outbreak and can help you protect your partners.  It's not a life threatening disease.  My Doctor's advice:  use condoms always to limit your exposure and get tested regularly for the more dangerous, life threatening STIs and don't worry too much about herpes.

If you have ever had a cold sore, you have HSV1 for life. Slightly good news: it protects you a bit from HSV2. Note the "a bit" part.

When my pre-teen GF and I wet kissed, we might have transmitted HSV1 or HSV2 to each other. I wish I remember whether we opened our mouths more. I don't have HSV2 but I do have HSV1.
