I'm 100% sure she was misinformed and talking about the HPV vaccine.
Oh, this is a good reminder.  I need to ask her to clarify next time I see her!

Hi Love Goddess,

A provider told me during a discussion about STDs that she is immune to Herpes because she has had a vaccination shot.  I've never heard of this, and when I looked it up on the Google I saw some articles from this year about it,  but they were talking about a Herpes vaccination that is still in clinical trial phases.

So what's the deal with this?  And if there is a Herpes vaccination currently available, shouldn't all of us hobbyists get it too?

Thanks,

Matt

Yup, I saw this wiki page during my search, but thanks LG for the link nevertheless.  So then how is it that this provider I mentioned in my OP has already received a shot?  She did not participate in a clinical trial, but rather, she told me her doctor gave her the shot.  How is that possible?  Are you aware of other providers (or any women) who also have gotten a herpes vaccine shot?

Thanks!

Matt

Dear MattClark,

That is frequently how clinical trials are done. Certain physicians participate in the trial and provide a particular patient load that then generates data.

I am not aware of any other individuals, male or female, who have participated in these trials,

Gotcha.  Thanks for the insights.  Hopefully the vaccine will be approved, and that they develop one that also works in men.  It would go a long way in reducing the fear I have going into these sessions with providers.

Matt

Are you sure she wasn't talking about the HPV shot? As they do have that vaccine available for females, up to age 26...

Well, all I can say is that during our STD discussion I asked her how concerned she was about Herpes.  She replied, "I'm immune to it, I've received a shot.".

So unless she misheard my question, she must've received a Herpes vaccination shot as a participant in a clinical trial.

And to address the next person's post, perhaps she's under the misconception that she's fully immune, rather than at much lower risk.

The link clearly says that such vaccine reduce the chance of infection not that make someone immune.
