This has happened a few times recently.  Seems to be specific to certain profiles.

Anyone else experience this? Craft a specific message, send, and it never goes?

How do you know it "never goes"?  Is the message still in the unsent text box? Does the send button not work? Is the send button greyed out? Does the message appear in the sent chat log, but the POT says they never saw it?  

 
Did you get any warnings from the site about message content or taboo words?

I noticed a cute newbie in my area and tried unsuccessfully several times to send her a message.  Here's the details. First, this is a SB I have never DM'd before.  So I'm on her profile, typing a message in the big message box. The balloon with the word Message turns red while I'm typing. Then I hit send.  The Message balloon momentarily switches to Sending.  Then, instead of changing to View Conversation in a red balloon, it reverts to where I started: The word Message in a pale grey balloon under a blank box in which to write.  The message I tried to send is gone, and does not appear in my list of sent messages.  This happened on two different profiles today, one of them I tried 3 times, same result.  It's weird because other messages are sending just fine, even on profiles I've never DM'd before.

Hard to say for sure since no one here is a Seeking Site Admin, software or network engineer.  But here's a few things you can try on your end before reporting this as a bug.  

 
1. Clear your browser cache. Easy to do - search google for instructions  Ex: "clear cache firefox"  or "clear cache chrome."  
2. Try to send a message to a diff SB with successful messages (maybe "Just wanted to wish you Happy New Years"?)  
3. Try using a different browser. (Clear cache there first.)  
4. Try using a different device (laptop, phone, tablet).  
5. Take a video with your phone of the screens to submit to Seeking if needed.

1. I cleared the cache but it made no difference.
2. I have no trouble sending messages to existing message threads,  it's working fine.  However, every time I try to make first contact with someone new, the message disappears.  I just tried sending msgs to three of those.  All three failed as I described above.
3. I have not tried a different browser yet.
4. I have tried a different device.  The problem first appeared on my desktop PC.  Switched to my laptop, and the problem persists.
5. I have not reported the problem, but taking a video at the critical moment when I try to send the msg is a good idea.

Any more advice?  This is more than annoying.  There are cuties who def need my attention, haha.

Update:
3. I just tried a different browser, Google Chrome instead of my usual Firefox.  Same result.  The message disappeared when I tried to send it.

I think you have done enough trouble shooting to show it's a site-side issue and not an issue with your devices or software.  

 
That probably means one (or more) of the following:  
1. Most likely:  They have a software bug affecting messaging between accounts that have no previous messages.  (Have you been able to "favorite" these profiles?)  
2. Less likely: The specific profiles/accounts you are attempting to message are unable to receive messages due to....some reason (either account status or perhaps some new setting on her account we have not yet heard about?).  
3. Least likely: There is some content in your messages that the site is blocking either in error, or due to some new content rules. I.e.: Some flunky accidentally added a word like "Hello" to the banned word list.  

 
One problem with my speculation: If this is a software or message system bug, it's likely they have received dozens if not hundreds of user complaints by now. If so, why haven't they acknowledged it or implemented a hot-fix?  

 
I suggest it's time to call up all your "buddies" at Seeking Admin.

I just tried a few more attempts and discovered that if a member favorited me I can successfully initiate a message to her!  Works fine, directly from her profile page. But I am still unable to send a message to someone with whom there has been zero previous contact.  

1. It def looks like a software bug.  But I have indeed been able to favorite these profiles.  This gives me another idea for a work around.  I'm going to un-favorite them.  Then when I re-favorite them, the box with their picture and the suggestion to say something nice will pop up.  Maybe I can successfully message them from there!

 
OK just tried that and again it did not work.  The message disappeared and did not send.  So one more workaround that failed.

3. There does not seem to be a content problem.  In the past a content problem would cause a warning reply from admin.  No such thing now.  Anyway, I've become way more careful about what and how I speak on the site.

 
The problem you noted with your speculation has occurred to me as well.  Why aren't lots of other users complaining about this?  Has no one on this forum had the same problem?  Weird!

OK, I just had another brilliant idea.  On the search results page you can send a message directly to someone by clicking the little message icon on their thumbnail.  I've never used that feature, but figure worth a try.  So this time when I sent the message I got a message in the box saying User is Unapproved!  So, her profile is up, but it seems like no one can send her a message until she is approved, whatever that means.  Maybe I've run into an obscure feature, not a bug.

Ok, so I think I know why my messages are disappearing unsent.  As you know, there are several ways to send someone a message on Seeking.  I finally tried sending messages directly from their thumbnail on my search results page.  In 3 cases my message disappeared and was replaced by "User is Unapproved".  Otherwise, my messages have been sent and received just fine.

So why are these 3 Users currently unapproved?  And if they are Unapproved, why are their profiles visible? There does not seem to be content that violates the Terms of Use.  They are all new profiles: Dec 7, Dec 9, Dec 13, so maybe Seeking simply has not gotten around to approving them yet?  Or maybe someone has complained about their behavior on the site putting their approval on hold?  They are also all very young: 19, 20 and 20.  So maybe Seeking is actually requesting some age verification?

Whatever the explanation, I'm fairly certain that there's no problem I need to worry about.  It's just very odd, and annoying, that the "User is Unapproved" message does not show up from the normal routes I use when trying to contact someone on SA.

That seems to explain the behavior you are seeing.  So probably still a bug. But not the same bug.
