So I'm about 7 days out from losing VIP status and I don't see a path to regaining VIP through posting reviews. I tried to buy a new VIP for a year using my debit card from a US-based credit union but it failed. Not sure if the CU declined it, TER's payment processor refused to process it because it's US-based, or TER's policy is to not let US-based accounts renew.

There is an option to renew with a gift card (like from Best Buy, Starbucks, etc.) but I'm not sure if that will work for a US-based member or if I even want to go down that path.  As I think about it, it could be that I was using VPN through UK and invoking a US-issued card as well, so it was flagged as fraud unrelated to nature of the type service (i.e.: TER).

So now I'm taking time to consider if I even need/want VIP in a post-SETSA/FOSTA space. Should I wait for some US Legal landscape change? I know I can still access the board without VIP, but I'll lose private messaging, and will lose access to non-US reviews (useful for my next international travel).

Thoughts?  Ideas for how to make a successful payment while in the US?

So I let it expire and won't consider renewing until I can get more value from the site. I'll still participate in this forum, but won't be able to send or receive PM's.

mrfisher suggested that TER upgrade basic (free) accounts so that they have PM privs. That is roughly equivalent to Provider Free Limited VIP.

Although basic members can still read and post to the boards, free PM is just another way to try keep people around and somewhat active (949 users as I type this - pbbbbb) until "full" service is restored.
