The answer to that question is, "it really depends." It seems you have understood that life coaching is NOT the same as psychotherapy; unless you consult with either a therapist or a life coach, however, you won't know what will be optimal (or even necessary) for you.

As a certified sexologist and licensed psychotherapist, I practice both sex/life coaching AND psychotherapy. If a client approaches me for sex/life coaching, I do assess him/her; if my clinical judgment tells me that the client would be best served by entering into psychotherapy rather than coaching, I make recommendations at the end of the first session. If the client is local, it is up to him/her to remain with me for psychotherapy and perhaps a further evaluation conducted by a board certified psychiatrist. If the client resides outside of Southern California, I refer to therapeutic or psychiatric health care providers in the individual's geographical area.

Since the practice of sex/life coaching is not restricted via state licenses at this time, I am able to engage with clients world-wide. I do this via VOIP or video conferencing programs such as Skype or ooVoo. We have regular, weekly coaching sessions, face-to-face via computer - all that is necessary is a working machine with a camera.
