I know TLG didn't want articles and such posted here and instead just wanted questions, but she's gone so....


This is a bit more pop psych than I like, but the revelation about a cheating gene is a new one on me.

But then, the article gives lots of reasons to stray, so take your pick.

In my case, I'd have to go with the last one:  "because I could".

We do it because we can and because it is so good. Anything else is hooey, IMO, until I get proof. Yesterday I saw this beautiful woman with a hot body who worked hard, and quite effectively, to make me vibrate with pleasure. She also said a lot of very nice, and clearly untrue but who cares, things to me. I do not need a genetic reason to find that worth doing.

By the way, the research seems to depend on mapping a genetic variant to the responses to a questionnaire, so it is subject to the same inaccuracies as any opinion poll to start, and even if the responses are true and the differences statistically significant, the research has not provided even a hypothesis as to how the gene causes the misbehavior. So coincidence cannot be ruled out.
