More generally, who decided that they are attractive and sexy. They seem to be standard attire, but I wonder why there isn't more variety in attire. I remember when exotic dancing was more of an art form.

The same applies to adult videos. The makeup, costumes, and types of scenes seem to be the same in 99% of all adult videos. I was at my local video store the other day and was again disappointed at the lack of variety. Who decided that this is what all men want?

I have not spoken to a legitimate costume historian about this, but having been around the adult biz almost my entire life in one way or another (I'm in my 50s now, so do the math), I can tell you that it's usually the girls themselves.

Most adult videos don't have big budgets and they go for maximum effect at lowest cost, so there'll hardly be a mass of Gucci or Prada shoes involved. The stripper heels (I'm assuming you mean the Lucite platform variety) are functional because they elongate the leg and make the sometimes shorter exotic dancers look much taller on stage. When said women then cross over into porn, they simply bring these. Quite frankly, I have never seen any type of fabulous fashion in porno flicks, not even in those Andrew Blake films or something more "upscale" from Vivid. The esthetic is to showcase their bodies and hence their legs.

As to the body language and technique - I'm not necessarily sure that contemporary stripping with all its pole acrobatics is any less an artform than Gypsy Rose Lee and her burlesque performer colleagues offered decades ago. But women's roles and even bodies have changed - the ideal is now a much more athletic figure that can perform to maximum advantage, even on a stripper stage.

Like in any other industry, there are fashions in and out of vogue permeating the porn video arena. Who had ever heard about anal bleaching before Tabitha Stevens went most public about it? Thirty years ago, women didn't even shave their genitals; now, a woman with a bush is considered almost in a 'fetish' category. Same for men - hairy guys are now in the 'bear' category.

My final advice to you is that if you are bored with what's out there, consider finding porn from other countries. Believe it or not, Asia has plenty of porn where women look quite different from the standard Westernized Barbie. Or go on line and look for those fabulous pornos from the 1970s. There, you won't find Lucite heels or boob jobs, just reg'lar cuties and Burt Reynolds-look-a-likes, which curiously enough were in fashion at the time.

I don't really care for stripper shoes in porn but it has nothing to do with ex strippers doing porn most of the time. Basically the director will ask the lady to wear them because he likes the look.
