Can you create and use an account on SA anonymously? Do they require official ID proof (license, passport)? Do they require unofficial but "looks OK to me" proof, like a business card or Costco membership card? Do they accept any made up name for the account holder? "William Shakespeare. ... No, really, my parents were English lit majors."

Can membership payments be made using anonymous credit cards (Visa gift cards, etc.) or do they use an anonymous gift card monetization method (like TER uses)? Must you use a verified credited card with your legal name on it (and SSN associated with it by the issuing financial institution)?

To further protect yourself, can you register and claim to live in Chicago but still do all of your searching / sugaring in Phoenix or any other non-"home" city?

When I created my SA account I do not recall being asked for an y proof of identity whatsoever. That was years ago, maybe someone who joined more recently can update this info.   They do require your profile to be linked to a valid email address.  So I created a protonmail account for this purpose which is supposedly secure, encrypted, and I only use it for SA.

Payments I can't respond too.  I just use my normal credit card and don't worry about anonymity.  

As for location, you can claim to live in Chicago, Bahrain, or anywhere and still do searches such as 25 miles from Podunk USA.  I search from different locales frequently to check out the SBs there, even though my home city remains the same.  But you can change that as well if you want to be found more easily. Suppose you are planning a trip to Phoenix. You can change your home location to be Phoenix for a time so that the Phx SBs will see you as a local. Hope this helps.

So yes, you can set up an account with a fake name. but:

 
1. Each needs a unique, verifiable email address (you need to click the link on the verification email)
2. You must use pics of a real person - can't be a pic without a person (like just your car),  can't be an obvious fake like a known celeb or cartoon character. Does not have to include your face - but that will reduce your contact rate.  

 
And:  
1. You can set and change any demographic data you want; income, net worth, location. You cannot change your DOB.  
2. Your last login country location (i.e.: USA, UK, etc.) will show to POT SB's. But not your login state or city.  
3. If you want to appear to be logging in from a diff country, use a VPN through the location you want displayed.  
4. You will be able to use some pre-paid cards, not all.  Cards issued from non-US banks will likely be rejected. Or you can set up a new bank account at a new bank and use a debit card from that account, if you just want to hide from a SO and not SA.  

Finally, if you want to get one of the 6(?) verified badges, you will need to share your Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn  accounts with SA (not with SB's) or use one of the 3 verification services they offer - look at your profile - Verifications on the left side.. greyed out means not verified. It's debatable whether being verified will increase your legit contact rate. Note that verifying FB, LinkedIn and Instagram is internal to SA. Your social media accounts names are not shown on your profile. Just the logos.
