So I met a new girl online who insists on me joinging this third party verification site for safety before she will meet. I've run into this type of scam several times before. She has enticed me with many sexy words and pictures. If I'll just join the site she'll do anything I want, blah, blah. Blah. This one is called Online Dating Safest Getaway (ODSG) and can be found at discreet4safestgetaway.com. It's not a bad looking site actually. But there's no way I''m about to join it. "She" assures me it's totally free but of course they need my CC number to sighn up! Just curious if any of you have seen this particular site yet. If not, here's my heads up; I believe it's a scam.
This has been around for several years, though I haven't seen it on SA before. Back in the olden days of 2008-2012, after businesses stopped using AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) and had moved to Skype, I occasionally got random messages from supposed hotties who wanted to sex-chat for free. They all used the same technique you describe; "Just use this site to verify yourself so I know you are real." The verification site will ask for a card but promise it won't actually charge you for "verification." BUT - hidden in the fine print you are agreeing to a monthly charge (maybe $20-$40) for recurring access to some kind of service. Total scam, and the "girl" is getting some kind of commission for every dupe "she" signs up.
Eventually the poor sap who signed up sees the unexplained charges on his card statement and calls his bank to dispute the charge. The bank will stop future charges and may credit him for the last 1-3 months. But since the regulations only protect a card holder if they report a dispute within a limited amount of time - usually up to 60 days or so - they may not refund older charges.
Of course the "girl" is likely not in the US and likely not even a girl. And the tease pics sent to the dupe are just random pics of a naked woman.
My guess is the profile will soon be reported and deleted. Or SA Admin will find it through their own fraud review process. Give it a week, and I predict the profile will disappear.
Ok, just kidding. Of course it's a fucking scam lol
I have have variations of this scam attempted on me dozens of times, I never went far enough to reach the point where they asked for a CC number, I learned long ago not to click on any link from an unknown/untrusted source so I always stop well before reaching the point where they ask me for a CC number. I get enough phishing scams, along with other attempts to infect me with viruses or hack my passwords to make it easy for them to do so.
Not to mention even if the site was completely legit, just how are they going to screen you without you having to answer a bunch of invasive questions asked by a completely unknown party?
