I got favorited and DMd by a very pretty girl in a distant city today. Happens all the time. In my experience the only time they are legit is when they have actual plans to visit my location and are trying to line up some company while they are here. I've met several out of town visitors that way, and have met some the other way around when I was traveling to a distant city.
So I replied to her and asked what she had in mind, saying I'm only seeking locally and pointing out how far apart we are. Unfortunately, her answer was: " I believe that if two people are truly compatible, distance is not an obstacle, but rather a process that makes meeting more anticipated." I think that's total bogus, the opening line for a content seller at best, or a pig butchering scam. If she was truly looking for a meaningful relationship why wouldn't she be seeking in her own city of millions instead of trolling way out here in Siberia? Makes no sense. Any version of the "distance in no obstacle for true love" must be a scam. Have you found the same thing to be true?
100% this is a fraud. Another trigger phrase for me is when they use "I am a calm person." See this one fairly consistently. I also love it when they send a message in the morning and ask, "How was your day?"
My gut tells me this is one of the Asian scam farm workers using a script written by one of the bosses. It assumes that: 1. Any guy, especially an older one, that uses a dating service like eHarmony or Match (but not Tinder or Hinge - which is part of the younger hookup culture) is lonely, and loser, and vulnerable to any "woman" that might pay him even the smallest amount of attention. 2. These guys are too desperate to bother vetting or even doing some critical thinking about the "woman" 3. The bosses of these farms do not realize (or care) that Seeking (or SB, SDL, SNL, etc.) are not "lonely guy" dating sites. 4. The worker who is following the scrip is woefully unaware of the nuances of English and so does not realize how out of place it is to say things like "looking for true love" or "destiny will win, no matter how far away."
On the slight chance that she's a real person and really wants to connect, she's just too naive to realize that travelling hundreds of miles for a M&G, or even BCD will cost more than any reasonable allowance. She's probably taken the blue pill from Reddit or other blogs and thinks that we all own G5's and can fly to Paris or her city on a whim, Richard Gere-style. The truth is that we'd need to be the current director of the FBI in order to have unlimited, no cost access to a G5 jet that allows us to get laid across the country with no accountability. :p
HTC, you detail all the reasons that message is a poorly written script. But I'll suggest that maybe it's a smart scam farm operator, not a dumb one, who writes bad scripts.
A bad script will indeed cause most men to smell a rat, and they won't engage. But that's OK for the scammer because he doesn't want to waste time cultivating someone who's too smart or suspicious to fall for the scam. All of that cultivation must take hours and hours to get the really big payoffs. Imagine how many hours it takes to get a target right to the point of considering sending a large payment. Now imagine how many of them won't pull the trigger and they don't decide that until the last minute. All the time the scammer spent with the target is wasted.
But what if the opening script is so bad that only the dumbest or most gullible engage? All the sudden the close rate (after first response) goes up, and the time spent per payoff goes down. Would you rather try to talk a normal group of 100 guys -- which includes smart ones and gullible ones -- into sending you money, or would you rather try to talk 100 gullible guys into sending you money?
There must be a reason the scam farms keep going. The smart ones figure out how to make it work (as unsavory as that is).
