I've watched a lot of porn, but recently have been watching the "Better Sex" instructional videos from Sinclair Institute, which use real couples. What really amazes me is how these seemingly "regular" guys can perform with rock hard erections in front of a camera crew and knowing that their friends, family and the whole world with see them. In addition, they have to perform on demand, meaning that when it's time to do they deed, they have no problem getting right down to it.

A large percentage of the questions on this forum is from guys who struggle with performance anxiety. So, what makes these other "studs" so different from the rest of us? Is it their upbringing? Do they have unusual temperments or dispositions? How is the psychological makeup of a sexual performer so different that he can have sex whenever, wherever and in front of whoever? I just don't get it. I'm extremely jealous!

Well, it's the same thing that can make an unknown amateur into an acting star overnight - I guess it's called a lucky confluence of natural aptitude, genes, emotional affect, personal history, and circumstances. Add to that habituation in terms of repetition, and I guess you've got the next Ron Jeremy or Rocco Siffredi or whatever else these guys are named in the here and now. And that includes the "regular" guys who are in these instructional videos.

Forget about the porn - if I asked most regular guys to deliver a bravura performance of, say, Willie Loman's role in "Death of a Salesman" - do you think they could? I bet not. AND they'd have performance anxiety too! As for WHY some guys are better than others at achieving erections in front of the camera - please see the first paragraph.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless you plan to change profession....just accept that we all have different talents and some of those involve screwing on cue...kinda like mechanical rabbits...

It's a bit presumptious to assume that EVERY couple who auditions for these videos actually ends up shooting them.  

The world of Industrial Video, which includes instructional sex tapes, is subject to the same sort of selection process as the entertainment world.  The actors chosen for a role are chosen because they are able to best represent the production company's vision.  There is a selection process. In this case the criteria may not be porn star looks, the ability to take a 12" cock or shoot a load like Peter North but there is a process nonetheless.  Obviously first and foremost would be the ability to perform sexually in front of a full production crew.

Yes, they are "real couples" and the tapes are certainly not porn but the folks acting in these videos didn't just walk in off the street and get the gig.  No production company would take a gamble like that.
