The clitoris retracts before orgasm, but if someone has this type of clitoromegaly, then yes, you would see it.

Dunno what kind of lady you were with, but if she has congenital adrenal hyperplasia or has done some serious testosterone treatments, then this could happen (see link.)

My advice to you would be to always ask questions if you see something unfamiliar in the genital region of your partner. It's not wrong, it's prudent and also educational. No question is too stupid and you should never be embarrassed.

I never realized that I was a bit of an oddity until I began having sexual experiences with other women. The hood of my clitoris is almost non-existent, and never covers the head of my clit whether I am aroused or not. It is quite large and seems to always draw comments from men when they see it.
