so many people think it's such a terrible thing. Gender roles are taken as being much more rigid than they really need to be.

I don't know why the desire to have children falls squarely on women, I know many men who really desired their children.

I am so impressed that the couple came out and discussed their situation before the tabloids took hold.  They seem genuine, loving and committed.  From the child’s prospective, will it really matter who carried them and gave birth?  Probably not.  I don’t know why so many in our society get hung up on same-sex or other alternative parenting situations.  Growing up, I can remember MANY of my friends having two, hetero parents that were totally bananas who could have benefited from some sane, loving gay parents.

In my view, raising healthy children isn’t so much a function of being heterosexual but rather a desire to love, nurture and contribute to your offspring’s life- no matter how that offspring came to be.

XO
Melanie

If men can be the ones who can get pregnant, it sure will be interesting to see how attitudes towards use of birth control will change.

Wanted to make sure this was the same case. This was the man who is allegedly pregnant? There aren't two of these like cases happening at once is there??

I really dont want to ruffle any feathers on this board but when it comes to giving birth, only a individual with female organs can give birth. I guess I can deal with this being touted as  a person who had a sex change from a woman to a man being pregnant but its almost like false advertising the way this is being touted. I mean a person born a man at birth having a child would be a real miracle of manmouth proportions.

I mean if I want to be idenified as a Rhinocerous tommorow and a Giraffe on Friday is that perfectly rational as well??? I really dont want to offend antone,I really am holding back a bit on this post, but my god sometimes I think I am living in some kinda weird netherworld. I guess the only thing wrong in this world now are the people who say something someone else is doing is wrong.

Thanks for reading, tallslim26 aka elephant

I heard a real male contraceptive (a pill) is very close to being put onto the market. Not sure when but it has been in the works for a while.

Before I get bombarded with hostile messages let me just elaborate that my comments should not be meant to pass judgement on transsexuals or other alternate lifestyles, there are too many on the TER network that would be offended which is not my intentions. I have my views on this subject and they will remain to myself.

I am just very concerned about the fact that it is becoming socially unacceptable to be critical of anyone's choices. I mean a person makes a choice to be molest a child or to rape a woman right. Not trying to draw comparisons between these lifestyles/criminal acts, I just think that we are headed to a point where child molestation is seen as a lifestyle choice or at very least a "disorder".

That was the main problem I had with that "TO CATCH A PREDATOR" show, when talking about the problem they recommended that we "treat" these people and rehabillitate them when what needs to be done is execution, swiftly, first time out. Don't some traditional standards need to be heeded in order to maintain any semblence of order???

Furthermore, many would have the same to say about YOU and your being here in this community.

I agree with Melanie. Of course, I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I reside in San Francisco, but irregardless, I believe that as long as this couple is committed to loving and taking care of the child, they have as much a right as anyone to start a family.

The hype surrounding this case has been sensational in the purest sense of the word - and perhaps that is the most unfortunate aspect of it all. Although the couple seems to embrace it all, I worry that they are bringing too much attention to the child. The kidlet will undoubtedly be under scrutiny - a fate over which he or she has no control.

The most effective male contraceptive is an oral one.

The gal simply says:  "What do you want to name the baby?"

Me too.
I also think the views & stereotypes of pregnancy would change for the better as well.
