Just thought I'd share what I do. It's a little more technically involved that what others do, but you never have to worry about clearing your cache or history, and you can keep all the naughty bookmarks you want.
Get the free app TrueCrypt (both Mac and PC). It allows you to allocate space for an encrypted, password protected directory. When you mount your directory it will be on its own drive on a PC (like F:, P:, etc) or in /Volumes on a Mac.
Next, use Firefox and create a new profile. Google "firebox profile manager" to learn how to do this. Create the profile in your mounted TrueCrypt directory.
You're done. Each time you want to hobby surf, fire up TrueCrypt, mount the directory, then fire up the Firefox Profile Manager and choose your hidden profile. (You have to close all previous instances of Firefox before doing this.) When done, close firefox, and unmount the TrueCrypt directory. All your history, cache and bookmarks are hidden inside the profile in the encrypted directory, so noone can see it and noone can bring up the browser you use to hobby surf.
I use TrueCrypt but not for browsing as much as for storing info, pictures etc I don't want others to see. I have even set it up for a couple of providers so they can keep there kids from accidentally finding their pictures. For an even easier way to browse the web without a trace. I have a USB or CD Linux that then runs only in memory so when you reboot it is all gone. While Linux may be difficult to use at first most versions can do a decent browsing session easily, and you can find free already made downloads to make the booting CD or USB just a download and burn.
so, why would I want to install a third party application. One must be very careful about downloading and installing applications from sources and companies never heard off, it very well could turn out to be spy ware.
Very hard to figure out who is legit and who is not when you download applications, especially free apps which is not tested by anyone. Developing good software takes time and effort and ask yourself why would someone want to give it away for free.
