I was just wondering what made you go back 16 years? What were you looking for as far as a topic? Most major topics get repeated here at least every couple of years, so I was curious what you were looking for where you had to go back 16 years to find it.
You guys are having a conversation in a 16 year old thread about number of reads. I don't want to answer in that thread because I don't like the idea of reviving ancient threads and bringing them to the top of the page, so that is why I started this new thread.
First off I don't know why you would find it odd that a 16 year old thread has way more reads than new threads. Hellooooo! It's been there for 16 years! Of course it has more reads. You don't actually think those 6000 plus reads all happened 16 years ago when the thread was fresh, do you? Every time someone clicks on it, a read will register. There are 16 years of clicks. Of course they taper off drastically as the thread gets older, but there are always people looking at old threads. There are probably several hundred more reads now then there was 2 days ago, since you revived it.
As to the question of the newer posts getting large numbers of reads for the OP, and small number of reads for replies, that is because the way new TER works. In the past you would click on an OP to read it, then you would click on a reply to read it. Now with the new system you click on an OP, and the whole thread opens so the replies don't show up as being "read," unless people specifically click on the reply.

No one was complaining about the reads (hits) in today's world. I was on the sales floor 16 years ago and couldn't believe how many people really read the posts and responses back then. Just a comparison. Sheesh...
Instead of dumping on Tippecanoe and myself, other people have chimed in. How would you have known Tippecanoe and I were even talking about a post had you not clicked on it yourself? Duh! I know it's OLD, but it still grabbed your attention.
I didn't know this was Perfectstorm's forum? I'll play by the rules (current subject matters only).
Who said you hit a nerve? Who said this is my Forum? You brought up a topic and I replied. I just chose not to reply in the ancient thread you brought it up in. I'm not dumping on anyone. Sensitive aren't you?
Also you still don't get it. You're still trying to say that the old threads got more reads. Than the new ones. That is not the case and I explained that. It was the purpose of my post.
I explained my logic for bringing it up in the first place. Once again, I'm sorry for dusting off an old thread.
I'm not the overly sensitive one. You felt the need to start a NEW thread since you didn't want to be apart of an old one. No problem.
I'm tired of everyone being territorial over a forum.
***Current material only***
There's no reason for you to apologize to these trolls for dusting off an old thread. They "live" in TER and will rip you a new one if things aren't done "their" way, GaGambler in particular. He feels entitled because he posts everywhere and was allegedly a TER monitor at one time (which he loves to point out once a week or so). He has an ulterior motive for not wanting certain threads to bubble up to the top again too though. There are some that make him look like the absolute tool that he is. I've called him out on it before and exposed him as the arrogant lying blowhard that he truly is. The longer those threads stay buried the happier he'll be.
I think that reviving the thread that you did was actually very clever. Gives us a perspective on how things may or may not have changed.
posting on discussion boards with a focus on such boards that are for the more open-minded community. One of the topics is to CHANGE the subject line to fit your response instead of just hitting "reply". Is that too difficult?
and that was the point of Perfect Storms post. Your "comparison" is apples and oranges.
The format is completely different than it was 16 years ago, for that matter, where it comes to counting "reads" it's completely different that it was even two years ago. Storm explained that pretty well if you had simply taken the time to read his post. The only reason he, or I for that matter, even noticed your post/s is because by reviving what should be a dead thread, you bumped it to the top of the board.
Here's the problem with reviving old threads, first off most of the original participants are gone, some dead, or in the case of Tippy's thread, people were trying to talk to people who have been kicked off the board. Secondly, the longer the thread, the more unwieldy it becomes to follow, it's much better for these and several other reasons to simply start a new thread on a topic than to try to revive a thread that has been dead for years. If you just feel like you HAVE to revive an old topic, do us all a favor and simply link the old thread to your new OP.
Fair enough. I didn't know men would of been put off by me bringing up an old post.
It was APPROVED by a moderator. I didn't think I was throwing off the equilibrium of the board.
***Nothing over 30 days, folks! The seasoned hobbyist have spoken***
It's about your comment on "reads."
What did you hope to find of current value in a 16 year old thread in the first place. I'm just starting my tenth year in the hobby, and things have changed dramatically in this business just in that amount of time. I remember things that were posted back then, and I doubt there is much there that is relevant to the way the business (and TER for that matter) works today. This industry is always evolving. What were you looking for that would cause you to go back so far, or are you just one of those people that reads obituaries in the newspaper every day to see if someone you know died?

All I said was - A blast from the past. Then people started taking it the wrong way. I mentioned hits/reads back then versus 2018. 16 years ago I was on a sales floor, I didn't know weathered hobbyist would of deemed it as a washed up topic. I'll upgrade my technology and knowledge on the business at a later date.
WE HAVE TO KEEP EVERYTHING CURRENT! I get it.
I was just wondering what made you go back 16 years? What were you looking for as far as a topic? Most major topics get repeated here at least every couple of years, so I was curious what you were looking for where you had to go back 16 years to find it.
Good god, CDL who the fuck cares. She found an interesting point in an old thread and put it out there for discussion. Why do you care what made her go back that far? What is YOUR point?
Your Mojo when you get all stressed like this. I'm just curious. I've been here almost ten years and it would never occur to me to seatch back 16 years for ANYTHING. Just wondering what she was looking for from then. If you have an issue with that, sue me.
Fact of the matter is your question has no relevance or substance. It's a stupid question and nobody gives a fuck how long you or anyone else has been here or whether or not YOU would go back that far and blah blah blah. Why would trolls like you, who love to hear yourselves talk, stress me out? Trust me, you don't.
have a stick up your ass. In my experience here, the guys like that are mostly the low-volume keyboard jockeys that see a girl once a month and think they're a big time hobbyist. You do yourself no service making yourself look like them, unless of course, you ARE one of them. Let's see, seven reviews since September. My apologies for not recognizing what a big deal you are in the hobby world. LMAO

for making it even clearer that nobody gives a fuck. Nobody gives a fuck how long I've been hobbying or how many reviews I have, and guess what........nobody gives a fuck about your track record either (Except perhaps for your fellow trolls who jockey for position to have the most posts). I have no aspirations to be a "big time hobbyist" (as you obviously do) I'm just here to have fun. Have a nice day and keep on postin'! LOL!!!
What is fascinating to you got me into a nice late afternoon nap.
I'm sure there are plenty of ladies in NYC who'd love to wake you up.
Learn something new every day.
It was making me wonder about 'reads' to a thread. Now I know.
Soldier on.
