I recently got a hobby burner phone for my last appointment and it worked out pretty good. It's a crappy little $10 TF but it got good service and made texts ok so I can't complain.  

Another thing I like about it is that my new hobby burner number is it's easy to remember... Which leads to my question... Is there ever an advantage to switching burner phone numbers periodically or is it not really necessary ? I obviously didn't give any PI when I activated the phone so I feel safe there. I always remember when I used to watch The Wire, the drug dealers would trash their old burners and get new ones with new numbers... Should I be doing this too just to be safe?

I'm curious to get some feedback as to whether keeping the same burner number for extended periods is a good or bad thing? Since it's easy to remember, I would probably like to keep the number as long as there is no significant downside to doing so.

I have the exact same TF!  LOL.  10 bucks, and it was a combo deal.  :-D  It texts, it calls, done.  Getting a new one is silly, they do it in movies and TV because apparently phones can be traced ALL the time in hollywood.  Nonsense.  Even if some crazy lady got your burner number, who cares?  When Im not using it to contact my lady friends I turn mine off.  So it doesnt ring or vibrate unless I have it on, which is frequently, but only for short bursts of time.  One phone should do just fine.

If you're going to call the same person more than once, then it's nice to keep the same number so they can recognize it. Otherwise, getting a new number or keeping the old one doesn't really make any difference. I doubt LE is building a case against you through surveilence, wire taps, and cell phone tracking like on The Wire. I don't know about your other criminal activities, but your current phone should be safe enough for hobbying.

I read somewhere that removing the battery helps prevent tracking of the phones location, which is all you should be concerned about since the phone is anonymous.  

I highly doubt you need to be as safe as a drug dealer ;-) but I don't know what you do outside of the hobby so this tip maybe useful. Google the term OPSEC and you will find pro-anonymity blogs that give all sorts of "keep safe" tips :-D
