You can buy them on-line at www.condomania.com (see link).  They aren't widely distributed, but if you live in an area covered by Sav-On Drugstores, I noticed they recently started carrying them too and were charging a little less than on-line.

Other brands are coming out with larger head designs too.  I tried Lifestyles Xtra Pleasure but didn't like it as much (it has a smaller head than In-Spiral and I couldn't tell much difference from a conventional design.  Also, Trojan has one similar in shape to the Lifestyles product.  If I remember correctly from reading the package info, the In-Spiral design is patented which is why the competition can make a fuller design, but can't make one as big, or shaped the same as the I-S.

The "spiral" part of the design is supposed to cause a twisting motion of the head of the condom on the penis.  I can't say if that's what's happening or not, but there seems to be more sensation.  The I-S also was rated best by couples in some magazine test.  I'll take their word for it, because like I said, I can barely feel anything anyway, so it's always just the lesser of evils for me.

Need some advice on which condom affords the best sensivity. I am over 60, but I don't want to give up sex yet. Even if I could find a provider willing, I will not have sex without protection. As all you guys will learn, there is a gradual loss of snsitivity in the penis with the advancing years. Sometimes, even with a full erection, I lose it after coveng with a condom and before completion. I KNOW the problem is that that rubber is blocking too much of the feeling. So, I need the very thinnest, BEST without sacrificing protection. HELP!!!!!!

Best without I have found is a urethane condom. Stronger than latex and seem to be thinner. It also seems to help if you use a lubricant inside the condom, it seems to transfer the sensations better than just using it dry.

I have a size theory.  Most guys who hate condoms hate them mostly because they are wearing the wrong size.  The type of condom mentioned in the previous post stretches very well.  That is one option.  The other is to invest and buy a few different sizes and try them on.  Excuse me miss, may I try this on before I buy it?  Do you have a dressing room?

Largest condom available in the US is a urethane condom, Avante. Avante is slightly longer and much larger in diameter than Trojan's Magnum.

It would be much easier to try different sizes if the companies would sell variety packs of all their condoms or individual condoms. Condom machines, the few out there offer little to no selection and usually the cheapest on the market. How about putting condoms in gumball machines? Make great balloons for the kids :)

Have you tried the original condom .... real sheep gut.  It is pretty wonderful (and reuseable).

Sheep Gut DOES NOT protect against HIV.

It has a large head design which allows a little more movement.  If you use some lubricant inside the tip, you can almost think you're having sex.  I'm younger than you, but already have the problem of not being able to feel much of anything.  Sometimes it's so bad I think about getting married again, just so I can remember what a real woman feels like.  But we all know it's faulty logic to get married for sex.

Fit is important, as mentioned above, and I find a loose fit helps improve sensitivity.  There are also some high quality brands using thinner latex from Japan, but they don't fit everyone (you can draw your own conclusions).   Interestingly enough, I found the urethane ones mentioned above to be the worst for sensitivity; so YMMV, as they say.

Several condom manufacturers are introducing condoms with a large, loose fitting heads like the In-Spiral brand I recommended above.  This design seems to have real advantages.  You can compare sizes, shapes and thickness of some of the brands on www.condomania.com.

The reason the big head design seems to provide more sensation is that you have to remember when you are wearing a condom, you are having sex with the inside of the condom, not with the inside of a vagina.  The looser fit shape allows for relative motion between the penis head and the inside of the condom, similar to the relative motion you would feel if you were bareback and sliding against the wall of the vagina.  Even with a little lube inside, rubbing against latex will never feel as good as bare skin, but the key is it allows for at least some motion.

Lacking this motion, with a form-fitting condom all you are feeling is pressure (which isn't much) and heat tranfer throught the latex (which is even less since latex is a good insulator).  In addition, the standard form-fitting shape can actually end up pulling tightly on the head of the penis and exaserbating the premature ejaculation problem mentioned on another post.  This is why condoms usually don't help people with PE problems that much, because despite the reduced sensation, the pressure of the tugging on the head of the penis caused by the condom results in an early orgasm.

As mentioned above, the natural membrane type will provide better sensation because you are rubbing against a non-latex membrane with more texture. But, of course, they are only good at preventing pregnancy and have no effect on stopping the spread of any STD virus (the smaller size of the virus allows it to easily pass through the relatively porus membrane whereas the plump little sperm can't get through).

I have never had sex with a woman wearing a female condom, but I'm guessing it's better for the man and worse for the woman for the same reasons stated above ie. the relative motion is now between the penis and condom, and there is no relative motion against the vaginal wall and the condom.  They are also expensive and akward to use, I'm told.

So Notdedyet, I couldn't be more sympathetic to your problem.  I'm only 50, but have already on ocassion experienced the same problem you describe of losing a strong erection while actually pumping away inside the woman.  I wasn't kidding a few weeks back when I said I enjoy sex more for the memory of what it used to feel like than the reality of sex with a condom today.  It's one of the reasons I've cut back so much on the partying- can't get no satisfaction.  What I wouldn't do for it to be 1970 again!!!

So I am alone in the world in not really noticing condoms?

I really feel little difference-They always seem pretty tightly on there to me!

Of course except for a few conception periods in my life, I've only done withuot maybe 20-30 times in my life!

I've tried the lambskin type, although they do feel quite "natural" beware, more than once they have  split or torn open on me during the act.!

I would have thought you had sex a lot more frequently
than that in your youth!
I will just go on the record as saying:

there is nothing better than full contact sex!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I was always down on SOs being on the pill-  it screwed so much with all the other systems- side effects- bad periods etc.- I always offered to take on the resp. for being safe/childproof- lots of condoms-

Not much one for totally losing my head with a lady-  I guess that's a difference between drinkers and smokers

You may not be alone, but you are part of a very small group I can assure you.  In 1996 I split-up with an s.o. who had her tubes tied.  She was also the last time I really enjoyed having sex too.

The woman I went limp inside of was an absolute knock-out gorgeous blonde that I'd been dating (I was really overachieving dating her).  It happened more than once also, so that gives you an idea how bad condoms can be for some people.

A very comprehensive overview of the "mechanics", G2. I appreciate it very much. I suppose I could give up on sex, because it really takes a lot of planning, forethought

and determination (not to mention the expense). But,  for reasons I will not go into, I was celibate for many years, and, I guess, I am now tryuing to make up for lost time. i absolutely enjoy the time I spend with a young, beautiful woman, whether i have the "ideal" orgasm or not. I have almost come to the state of mind that ejaculation while inside is a "bonus", but not essential. And, that's OK; I am more concerned that the lady will feel that she has failed me. I think my favorite provider feels that way, though she never expresses any feeling but pleasure in my company.

G2:

Your comment about 1970 reminded me of 1968 when I was working in Northen Nevada and visiting the local brothels (I was hormone filled kid of 31 in those days). The policy of all the houses was NO condom. What a difference from now. Also price was $20 for half and half.  Guess we are getting like typical "old guys" talking about how great it use to be :-)

Chuey

Thanks for the advice , but I can't seem to find the "in-Spiral" condoms you recommend. Can you tell me re to get them. I would appreciate that info very much.

This site shows a chart for each of the major condom brands--and includes the length, thickness, and width of each different type of condom.

I would like to compare the different brands. Would you like to participate in the scientific analysis?

I was in a study once-  got all the free condoms we wanted-  my SO and I somehow took it all as a challenge-  tried to put several x's up every day!

Thank god I was in the control group-  as the new ones they were testing were crappy-

For the record-I don't think we could ever get over 10x per week- still, not bad for a working couple in their 30s-

That was years ago-

They are urethane, so they are thinner and transfer heat better.  They tend to adhere themselves to the inside of her walls so the feel is almost next to nothing.  The only drawbacks are they are a little more expensive (about $2 each) ... and oh they do like kind of goofy hanging out of your lady, but the feel is much better.

Finally, someone who has tried one.  Are they hard to get "installed?" I heard they're only slightly easier than a diaphram so you have to plan ahead so they don't kill the whole mood and result in a 5 minute time-out between DATY and a trip to the holy city.

Also, what did the woman think re. comfort, sensation etc.?

I (or she actually) didn't think they were that hard to install.  Its alot like a diaphragm, but it probably took longer to open the package (they don't tear easily) than to put it in.  Might want to have a pair of scissors handy.

She seemed to like it as well.  It tends to adhere to the females walls and its very thin and conducts heat better than latex so its about as close to nothing as you can get and still play safe.
