Expensive ring? How expensive this is if you are looking for long life-time partner? How do you measure the cost of the ring to the time you spend together? 20-30-40 years or more? Does she offer him sex for an hour? If you believe in only physical interactions between two sexes, then you'd prefer to remain single. If you want kids, they are obviously should be raised by two parents, since this union; people refer to it like marriage, but it is not necessary. You should live together for a long time and don't write up all your belongings to the state. And also, state has nothing to do with two people living together. xo
The conversation with a young man in his mid twenties and his girlfriend of one and a half years: someone asked him "what's the holdup on asking her to marry you"?
She answers "he's saving up for an expensive ring". There are two glaring, foretelling doom issues here. First of all that she answered a question asked of him, secondly that her answer is "he's saving up for an expensive ring". So, love is not the issue for her, it's the expensive ring which will seal the deal.
I don't care how good looking she is, this is one woman that he needs to cut ties with and run fast and far from.
It's because of that kind of attitude that I won't bother with civies anymore, I know exactly what a provider's agenda is, and exactly what her motivations are, and that's perfect.
Fuck marriage! And especially marriage with a gold digging bitch like that.
If I ever marry there will be no engagement/wedding rings, I don't plan on getting wed.
but in your little gold diggers defense. It's not just his money going into the ring, once they are married it's her money too.
Hopefully it will take him years to save up for that expensive ring and by the time he can afford it, he will figure out he should just blow the ring money on hookers and good booze instead.
See, you knew we would end up back on the same page, didn't you? lol
I don't know why young women can't understand this, her ring money is negatively affecting her, food, shelter, transportation, and all her other living expenses.
The glaring issue to me though, was that she answered a question asked of him. If she's doing that now, it will only get worse once she's trapped him.
I don't believe that either the man nor the woman are the boss in a relationship, it's supposed to be a partnership. But society seems to think and portray that the woman is the boss. Nothing turns me off faster than a bossy woman. Don't get me wrong, I'm not interested in a submissive woman (well maybe sexually), I'm interested in an independent woman, one who treats me with respect and who expects the same from me.
If I were him, she'd be history the very next day. I wouldn't say anything then on the spot, because I firmly believe you don't aire your dirty laundry in person, but she'd be history the very next day.
I've got much better things to spend my money on than some over valued piece of gold with a diamond on it, namely good pussy.
That is the answer he gave her, and she was merely relaying the message?
Who knows what his intentions are, maybe he is keeping her around until she stops putting out.
If it were an accusatory type of question, it could be argued that she was stepping in and getting her man "off the spot" or she it could be that she is already speaking for him instead of "allowing" him to speak for himself, in which case you are correct and he should get away from her as fast as he can.
While I agree with your basic premise, You left out some crucial information we need so we can make a full analysis of the situation lol
Is the girl hot, I mean smokin hot? Does she love sex? Does she love doing sloppy bbbjs? Does she have a hot friend or two that want to join in a threesome? Now, we need to know these things because maybe, she is worth that gold. I mean how much is the poor boy going to have to spend to get that all that in P4P?
Ok, ok, before the haters start, I'm playing around here....OTOH, LMAO

This is about a pain quotient. In other words, the little woman wants to see just how much pain she's worth. If there is a sufficient pain quotient - she's in.
If it were about money - it would be better to give her some 5% dividend utility stocks. Did that once.... did not impress her AT ALL. Despite the fact that those stocks in 20 years will be worth a heck of a lot more than an overpriced rock at retail - assuming you can find someone who wants to buy it as opposed to a pawn shop.... A few envelopes filled with benjamins would be a better investment.
Got her a rock (thereby flushing away a substantial amount of capital that could be earning more money) and she was as happy as a clam. And... BTW... just how do you REALLY know what the quality of that overpriced piece of crystallized carbon is....
Women.... SMH.... If I knew then what I know now.... Run, Forest, Run!!! Rent - do not Buy
in this industry or another using my education
but when i marry a guy i want him to be financially stable, productive and be able to provide for family
all it means to me is that he is good with money and is responsible person....does that make me a gold digger?
i was already married once to somebody almost 3 times my age with a good heart and zero business skills and no ability to save and invest money....it is exhausting when only one person has to worry about the financially future of the househol
Wouldn't the refusal to spend a month+ of salary on a relatively useless inanimate object be one indication of fiscal responsibility? To say nothing about some of the ethical concerns brought about by the procurement of certain precious gems (i.e. blood diamonds and the like).
I lost the love of my life several months ago. One of the main reasons I considered her (and still do, if I'm being truthful) as such was her stance on "wasting" money on a ring that could be utilized in far better ways - either productively (put towards a house, home improvements, etc.) or in an experiential sense (amazing honeymoon, lavish getaway weekend(s), etc.).
I do understand everyone's desire to find someone who has their financial house in order. I'd say that's true for both men and women in long-term heterosexual relationships.
It's true for both parties in long-term homosexual relationships too.
well played ma'am, well played..
I don't doubt it. Just not my area of expertise. =)
but wtf does this have to do with hobbying?

Why aren't you married yet is a common question from the older ones to the younger ones. Most girls are raised to think thats the thing to do. Myself and most guys in their mid 20s, when I still was capable of "normal" relationships, would just hang on for the good times and sex until it got near the ultimatum time, then it was time to start being "distant" and let the breakup process take its rightful course.

...with that type of bullshit.
When I read things like that I am embarrassed for my gender *smh*
How do we know the guy is not the one who said "hey hon, I want to marry you but I want to hold off until I can put a big rock on your hand." BCD, she may have said that the size of the ring did not matter but he may have insisted. Now, if he had asked and she said "no, let's wait until you give me a huge rock," then I would agree, he should run. Perhaps he is using the time he needs to allegedly save for the ring to get a little more mileage out of her, we don't know.
On the larger issue of whether the ring is silly or not, yes, it is probably financially silly but not everything in life is about Xs and Os. If having the ring makes the woman feel special and I have the money, well, fuck it, she will have the ring. Now, if a guy puts all his money into a fucking ring, well, he does not have much common sense and SHE should run.
In the OP, if he insists on buying something he cannot afford and she insists on having it, it seems to me that it is a union made in heaven and there will be two very happy divorce attorneys somewhere down the line. Although we focus on the sex here, or rather the lack of sex, the fact is that most marriages fail as a result of financial pressures. It also makes a bit of sense, both those issues can easily feed into each other, I mean, who wants to screw when everybody is wondering where the next meal is coming from or whether the shit he/she charged will be repossessed tomorrow.
You rail on marriage over and over and over and over and over.
I'm sure your ex-wife had good reason for being disgusted with you. You have no balls. And want to blame women for your problems.
I'm sure the prostitutes can't wait till you show up with your money, and leave so they can shower and get your smell out of their hair.
You bother with civvies? Why even go there, since you've declared yourself a disgusting loser. No one likes to be around losers.
Keep on paying the prostitutes. They'll never confuse you with someone they actually want to be near.

Nobody in their right mind is looking for their soul mate here.
Please remember I had years of experience getting posts back "on topic"
i would not marry him ,that means he is not good with money
the size of the ring and price tag does not matter to me
i own a jewelry store, i know retail mark ups, would not want my loved blow too much money on the ring...it is not the ring that proves the real love

....and the money that would have been wasted on it should be part of a down payment for a house or put away in savings for the future.
For some men a gold digger is the best type of wife for them since there is always that pressure/motivation from her to make more money. I know several acquaintances who after getting a gold digging wife quickly turned from losers to what society deemed winners. Some can only be motivated in that way. I mean no disrespect to Jews but many Jewish woman are "gold diggers" and hey, look how successful Jewish men are.
I think behind every ambitious man is a needy woman. If the guy really loves the gold digger he wouldn't care and she will just become another reason for him to take more for himself (to bring home ofc).
One last thought is that all women are gold diggers to some extent. Money means much more than pieces of paper and having money as a factor in choosing men is not shallow at all.
