I don't hobby often enough to obviously to get a dedicated phone, but this past weekend's experience really made me consider... My folks and friends came over and they were borrowing my cell phone to order some pizza.. Then they found contacts for "~~~~ Escorts" "~~~~ Girls." There were text messages, etc... You get the idea.. I had to lie that it was my friend's sick prank, but I think my dad knows...

I know.. I should have put in something like "Domino's Night Delivery" or something along the lines in the address book. I did not really care much for it because 360 out of 365 days I live alone.

Anyways, I received a new phone (BB Bold 9900) today which I have wanted, so I have the Bold 9700 just lying around. Perhaps it is not too bad of an idea to get one of those shady pay-as-you-go sim card instead of adding a line in my family plan lol.. I am considering it because it won't be costly at all and I would prefer that some indie providers not know my "real" phone number. Why not?

How do you guys have your hobby phone set up? Will this affect the screening process? I am not posting in the newbie forum because newbies don't have hobby phones.

Tracfone has a deal where you buy a certain model phone, (mine was 30 bucks) and everytime you add minutes you get double the minutes for what you buy for the life of the phone.

Who's number did you list as "Escorts Girls"?   Do you have a direct number to a variety of ladies?  

Regardless of who's number you have in your phone, you need to be a bit more creative about marking them, they should be so bland that if someone else uses your phone (with or without your permission), they wouldn't think twice about the contact , Joe Smith, BB Dry Cleaning, Pharmacy, etc whatever but not so obvious as "Escorts" .

A hobby phone is cheap insurance to isolate your everyday life from the hobby and vice-versa.  You may have gotten busted already.

TER Newbies are pretty 'with it'...  because the vetrans teach them.  One of the firstthings that comes up is security, hobby phones, etc.  It have been discussed regularly on the Newbie Board.  

I am on my second trac fone, (first one lasted 3 years).  I get a flip phone that fits my belt carrier & I swap them on a date.  I add days / minutes before they expire...  I never use them all...  so they roll over.  My fone was about $20, and another 20 every 3 months for 100 the first year.  I erase all calls from my hobby phone...  it just looks like an emergency phone.  A bit extreem perhaps & requires me to access the internet to plan a date.  I clean the phone before I leave her.  

If you insist on keeping your little black book on your phone...  never put anything descriptive except maybe a code that can mean something else.    Having girls names / numbers is not so bad if you don't describe them as "Escorts".  What were you thinking?  

IMHO, I think it's wise to keep your hobby & your private life separate.  Practice not leaving tracks.  You are young.  Someday, you might meet someone & want to close this chapter.  It is far better to not have to clean up your tracks than to wish you could.

A polite suggestion would have been in order.  

For my personal phone, it is password protected to even access it. Also, for each app, there is this app called "Locktopuss", which requires a password to access the specific app. I got each app locked down. If they gotta make a call, they can still make a call, but, they can't browse my shit, look at my texts, photos, and all that jazz I got because it needs a password to continue.

Anyhow, I don't let any person use my personal phone. I also have this other feature on the phone that only allows other users to make phone calls only. There are a lot of good apps out there man. Spend some time on youtube, and watch that shit out. It also helps if your phone is jailbroken, you get all the free shit too, but, you didn't get that from me.

Use creative names and delete messages often. I don’t keep messages more than a day or so. Messages from providers gets deleted immediately after reading.

I will figure it all out. Seems like I might need one, especially if I will be hobbyin hard next year.

Change some names in my phone contacts!  I need to change "coke dealer" to cola distributor, "automatic gun sales" to target practice range and the group "escorts" to fitness therapists or bed sales.

Now, it'll be a funny story for you to tell down the road.

all the providers i store in my phone i store as z_name and all my ex's and other ppl I don't want to talk to I store as x_name.  this works for me and it is very rare that someone looks at my phone and by chance they do x and z are so deep in the contacts that they would really have to be snooping to figure it out.

Smart man... Anyways everything is fixed up for me right now.

Make up a name that will not attract attention.  
Instead of "Hot Babes Escorts" maybe "HB Consultants", or some other generic name that you will know but will mean nothing to anyone else.

Even though the Newbie Question was on the GD board, I think the members were reasonably kind.   Yes, we all were newbies once and it is wise to remember that we all likely took chances that we later regretted.   I was lucky...  and LUCK is not a plan!   Thanks to the great information here, I have a better plan in place.
