We were talking on the DC board about a provider who told me the story about seeing a client at an event at her son's school.  Ladies or guys - did this ever happen to you In Real Life?  Was the SO there as well?  How awkward was it for you or the the other person?

And I do not make a production of running up and greeting them. Sometimes a very slight nod is all that I do. If he is obviously with someone I don't even do that.

If she's all alone and she comes up says hi then we might talk,  but other than that I stay low key.  

and greeted me in public like an old friend which I found delightful -   but then again the providers who have known me well know that this is perfectly okay......     in other cases I've exchanged a nod and a smile or wink - mostly because she was being discrete for her own reasons.....

We were on the same flight and ended up chatting in baggage claim.  She had never been to the city we were in and I was taking the train in from the airport and offered to ride with her to show her where to go.  We had a nice conversation on the way that ended with her saying "bye" and me saying "see you later."  And I did..about 10 hours later after I'd called her agency for an appointment.  There is nothing quite like chatting up a hot girl at the airport in the morning and having a naked wrestling match with her that night, just because you decided you wanted to.  To all p4p naysayers I would say see how many times that goes down for you for free!

...being out with a bunch of guys from work and seeing a provider I've met at a bar or restaurant. I see her and give her a wink. She comes over and gives me a hug and says "omg...how have you been, it's been ages! We should definitely do lunch soon!" and then walks away. Colleagues stare at me mouths open and ask who was that?? I answer...former client and shrug. Colleagues just shake their heads.

firm handshake plus "So good to see you again.  Where are you (working/playing golf/something I know about them) these days?"  Two sentences and go.  Throw myself on the grenade before it explodes, so to speak.

Non-moron hobbyists would do one of two things:

The reason I say "sort-of" is that I was with another provider at the time, and the provider we ran into was a former friend of the provider I was with, and they were pretty icy towards each other.

Further, the reason their relationship turned icy is that the provider I was with introduced me to the other provider about a year or two before in a series of regular 3-way sessions but then I started to go off on my own and see the other gal independently.  (Yes, I'm nothing but a hound dog.)

I think it's fair to say that the ironies fairly rebounded around all of us.

Talk about awkward.

Finally the whole episode took place at a resort island many miles away from all our respective home turfs, lending the novelty of coincidence to the entire affair.

OP said at a school event so I assumed they were "captive" in a small group.  Also I'm pretty traditional looking and have a legitimate career/reputation, so it's certainly not obvious how I'd know someone...

....most of which were smart enough to subtly nod at me and be on their way. I would never acknowledge a sex worker out in the real world, especially with my SO by my side. I would hope that they would feel the same. I have had a couple of ugly close calls when strippers approached me while I was with my missus - once in a supermarket and once in a casino in Vegas. Thankfully I was able to get out of it fairly unscathed but I had a lot of backpedaling & explaining to do to the missus to save my ass

Especially fun to run into a provider that the wife or gf and I have seen together. Never run into a provider in a completely vanilla context though. It's always been at a sex-related event, which makes it easier.

Found out there that a provider I saw lived in the same neighborhood with her child.

we met eyes when our paths crossed and she smiled wryly, she knew without a doubt that I knew who she was. But nothing was said, a glance was exchanged, and we meant our merry way.

Dear Marie:
The big question is how you would react if they had occasion to interact with you within your professional capacity. Also it seems that you would be a major crossroads,about how you would proceed with respect to your supplemental income as well. If they are going to be working with you in your mainstream position do you drop them as a client in your supplemental position?  That is an interesting conundrum that only the provider can answer.

I spotted a very recognizable rock star at the baggage claim in Maui. I did the double-take as I was surprised that: 1. he was getting his own bags. 2. no one else recognized him (wearing sunglasses, t-shirt and jeans). I couldn't resist meeting him, and as I approached, before I could say anything he turned around, shook my hand and started with some small talk as if we were already well-acquainted.

on the idea that being intimate has some extra special significance you can't overlook...  It's fun, and then you get on with your day.   Fyi, in most professions (Except doctors and auditors, which I'm not) you can do work with or for someone you're already banging, you just can't start banging someone you're working with or for.

I think a provider would be more horrified than disappointed if she showed up only to find me with an outie instead if an innie
