Someone on the NY board alluded to this.  I don't
know because I have a few days left as VIP and
would like to know before it expires.

Only VIP members can post under an alias. Basic members can manage their aliases, but they can post only under their username.

My prediction is that the number and quality of posts on the discussion boards will drop.  The participation in chat last night was dreadful, and probably will get worse.

Staff may have decided to accede to the repeated requests of a vocal minority, but a very large silent majority may just vote with their feet and abandon TER.

Mr. Info's days may be numbered???  Say it's not so.

What exactly does "manage their aliases but post only under their username" mean??

I'm not sure about the number of posts declining, but I agree with you about the quality.  IMO the quality has been in a fairly steady decline ever since the mulitple alias feature became a reality & I believe there is a direct correlation.  As for your last sentence, to a perhaps substantial degree that may have already been happening.  A great many frequent contributors going back to the '01-'02 era are no longer seen on the TER boards; others (like myself) are no longer seen with any regularity.  And I know for a fact in several instances it's not because they've left the hobby.

...I will continue to post a mind-boggling number of... [cough] quality posts!

Don't worry guys, there are tons of message board features coming that I guarantee will double or triple the volume on the boards within the year and make them much more fun. Its a secret, not even the mods know..

from my point of view is that when I posted with an alias it also kept people from private messaging me which would be a bit useless since I cannot access private messages unless I go vip. I do that from time to time if I am going to be touring but where I live it is a bit of a waste of money to pay for vip the rest of the time.
