…first hit the screen.  Just happened to catch it while flipping channels last night.  I started wondering about stupid stuff that would never have occurred to me before I joined the hobby world.  In particular:  Rebecca DeMornay agrees to meet with Tom Cruise at his house.  No discussion of how long their appointment is going to be, or what her donation might be.  The next morning she tells him that the charge for her time (for what has turned out to be an overnight appointment) is $300.

Wow.  Really?  Only $300?  A typical overnight with a 9 or 10 provider (and DeMornay certainly was a 9 or 10 back in 1983) nowadays would be how much?  Anywhere from $2500-5000, depending on city?

Has the price of p4p really gone up 1000%+ in the last thirty years?  Or was the movie lowballing the cost of doing business back then?  (which is what I expect was actually the case)

Curious to hear from long-time hobbyists here, or anyone with a reasonably informed base of knowledge.

Charges for overnights with the providers I have discussed it with, range from $800.00-$2,500.00. The providers I am referring to are easily as hot if not hotter than DeMornay. She was very pretty but rather skinny if I remember correctly.

It would not surprise me if there were providers offering an overnight for $300.00 thirty years ago.

Also remember it's a movie, the writer could have just pulled a number out of a hat.

much more so than hourly visits.

I recall paying for my first overnight with a semi-pro provider in the mid 1990s and it was around $3,000.  (24 hours as I recall)

Today I often see providers for overnights in the $1,500 range, and sometimes under $1,000.  It depends on how much the provider likes overnights and the client in particular.

not reality and pretty old.
those details were not important and not the focus in making the film.
Don't over think it or rewrite it eat some popcorn and sit back and enjoy...the way it was written.

I saw Woody Allen's  "Mighty Aphrodite" again recently.  In that movie Allen visits Mira Sorvino, and by the details, it looked like someone had done their research.  Wonder if it was the Woodman himself that added the authentic details, or was a crew sent out to gather details that would add verisimilitude?

but in fairness, I should point out that i am in Costa Rica at the moment:)

I was living in Vegas when that movie came out, and while I knew a lot of hookers, I don't really ever remember paying for an overnight. Thinking back on the price of pussy back then though. the number does not seem out of line. Just like today, the number is all over the place. Rarely less than a grand, and usually not more than three grand. So we are talking numbers somewhere between 3 and 10 times what DeMornay charged Cruise 30 years ago, Yeah I can buy that.

What if we make a movie today and show a guy filling up gas at the gas station in USA, but the gas is $0.90 gallon...

Would you get a kick out of it?

Not a high priced escort.  I have a frame of reference that goes back about 25 years but back in the 80's it was a different game.  No internet, no websites and limited communication possibilities. I had a couple of regular SW's back then that would take you to a hotel-$100 for about a half hour or until you popped.  GFE didn't exist back then (neither did bbbj).

As far as the whole overnight thing goes I'm well aware of what many ladies publish on their sites for an overnight rate but I have never-and would never-pay anything close to that. I'm not one to encourage "negotiation" or haggling but I will say that a gal that you spend a lot of time with and that you have a connection with can often be very generous with her time.

The price of gas in movies always gets me.  I was watching Dirty Harry the other day, and a gas station in the background had a sign that said 299.

At first glance, it looked like $2.99.
But if you do a double take, they were really saying 29 cents.

Bullshit , however another hit movie and lots of new girls doing this shit ! A good thread would be how these movies influence sex in this manner ...see the hard part here is finding the true providers opposed to the man haters who just want guys to pay for pussy as revenge for bad past relationships ....happy new year PS ..

As I recall from that movie, Richard Gere bought her all this jewelry, he gave her a huge wad of cash to buy clothing at the most snooty places possible, etc.  Of course, he was some kind of billionaire too, just as a side note.

As a result, that street walking ho naturally fell in love with him.

I think she ended up being the most high priced escort there could possibly be.  haha.

when doing a comparison to what the price was for a $300 overnight stay in 1983 to now

$15239 average US yearly pay in 1983, $300 of that is 1.969%

$44321 average US yearly pay in 2012, 1.969% of that comes out to be $872.52 which is kind of in the ball park but it was a great deal back then.

another interesting factor is that when the friend comes over and sees her friend it was a $100. using the same calculations based on percentage it comes out to be $290.84 which is pretty close to what a hour appointment costs with an above average women.
