Candidate A -
Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. He's had two Mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B -
He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.
Candidate C -
He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his wife anf is a well known artist and spent time as a teacher.
Which of these candidates would be your choice?
Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Candidate B is Winston Churchill.
Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.
Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before judging
someone.
Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:
29 have been accused of spousal abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad checks
117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year
It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group of so called powers that be, that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the
rest of us in line. Amazing isn't it

Well, you were right, i killed Beethoven. On a brighter note, i did elect Churchill, although in all honesty, i did know who you referring to from the discription, so it affected my vote. As far as congress goes.........i take the 5th!!!!
1. Out of hundreds of millions of people born in Germanic states in the last 300 years, there is only one Beethoven and one Mozart. If one extends the same logic, how many future Hitler and Jeffery Dommer were not brought to society due to the legalization of abortion? Does that justify all kinds of abortion or the condemnation of 2 parent families?
2. People elect leaders by the totality of their achievements and personal behaviors. In the end, all that matters are performance especially in time of crisis.
FDR’s affairs were not widely known. He was elected President because of the disastrous economic policy of the clueless Hoover. He was nominated by the Democrats because of his good performance as the Assistant Secretary of Navy and the governor of New York.
Churchill didn’t become the PM until the collapse of confidence on Chamberlain and the eve of the fall of France. Without his proven foresight on Hitler in his wilderness years, there was no way members of the Conservative party would choose him as the PM.
Hitler was elected (Yes, Nazi gained a substantial plurality of the votes in 1932 and was invited by Hindenberg to form the government and became the PM) because his message at the time matched the revenge mood of the mass and the anti-Communist, anti-Semitism sentiment of the powerful in Germany. Of course, eventually he brought disaster to everyone. However, he almost pulled that off and initially fulfilled those wrong, hateful and evil wishes of his followers. (Please read Hitler’s Willing Executioners by Daniel Jonah Goldhagen) In a tragic and twisted way, the German’s got what they wished for.
Even good parents can raise horrible children. One can only make judgment on info he/she had at the time. The rest depends largely on luck or providence. A lot of the times, one has to play the percentage in arriving at the right decision.
3. In USA, people are allowed to start over. That is why there is a bankruptcy law enacted. This is a free and merit based society. Truman failed in his haberdasher business. Many successful businessmen filed for bankruptcy on their first business before they succeeded. Look at Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida, an impeached federal judge elected by the voters in his district. I personally don’t think he is the right man for the job. However, if regular people don’t want to pay attention and vote while other voters in his district support him, it is their choice. I am sure he gave voice to those voters. That’s democracy. It takes a good candidate to beat a bad one. Even so, it is not always successful.
Morality, competence and representation are all different virtues that are not in sync most of the time.
By no means did the majority of the Germans elect Hitler. Owing to Hindenburg not getting a plurality (he did have the majority) during various votes, Hindenburg actually acceded to Hiter. At no time did Hitler get >50% of the vote; that he did is a common misconception.

of many Parliamentary government. A lot of times, the party that gained the largest vote couldn't form a government with a majority. That doesn't mean that the leader emerged was not elected. (That is the problem with Parliamentary system; too many backroom dealings.)
Hitler was elected by the members of the German Parliament just like the incoming PM of Turkey are going to be elected by his coalitions. He did get the majority approval of the governing coalition before he used the burning of the Parliment to impose martial law and suspend further elections.
It is the Cold War that led to a lot of softening/misinformation of the misdeeds by regular Germans, French and Japanese in WWII. For example, most of the French after the establishment of Vichy regime were just appeasers, contented to be dominated and dictated by the Nazis.
If you live an other wise heroic, healthy, moral, ethical and benevolant style of life you'll end up as an abhoration.
If you live a life of violence, deceit, exploitation and vice you will be a leader of men and be paid "Bank" for it.
Also,one may imagine the hordes of frustrated architects pecking out their own *Mein Kampf*.
