I know that it is a bit of a stretch comparing polygamy with P4P, but there are certain similarities as well, the chief one being sexual freedom.

And, if it can happen in Utah, then you'd think it could happen anywhere.

Just thought I'd toss this out  there to see what people think.

Aren’t getting laid regularly by the women they’re married to, especially if they have small kids, or they have become financially ruined after 7-15 years of marriage when the divorce drops. Or at the very least if the man is wealthy, it still forces him to start over again while the X wife gets child support, alimony, half his retirement and the house. Being legally bound to a woman with most states divorce laws to me, is a horror show. Some states even force men through the courts (who aren’t the biological fathers) to legally pay for child support once the relationship ends, simply because they were in a serious relationship with a single mother during a small child’s life. The constant routine, the constant commitment to provide attention, entertainment, money and reassurance... to not one, but many women??? That wear no makeup and dress like their straight out of the 17th century? Ummm, yeah.

I say go ahead Utah! Show us all how it’s done LOL. I’m rootin’ for ya! Buy yourself a nice piece of land, get some trailers, pull them together and make a nice compound for yourself. What could possibly go wrong?

but one person's "sexual freedom" is another person's "child abuse"

I will concede that "some" of these people just want to live their lives and worship their invisible sky daddy in peace, and as "consenting adults" I have a hard time arguing with that, but here is where it gets wonky. What happens all too often is that cults are formed, the cult elders decide which little girls get married off to who and you end up with a handful of men who basically end up with harems and "little girls "are married off to old men who happen to have power within the church/cult. It's some scary fucking shit and these predators should all have their balls cut off, slowly and painfully.

There is nothing "free" about a twelve year old being married off to a 60 year old in the name of "freedom of religion"  or even worse calling it "sexual freedom"  What consenting adults do is none of my business, assuming of course EVERYONE involved is really "consenting" and isn't being pressured by their family/church into becoming something akin to a slave.

I think it is a positive step but they should go further and just make it not a criminal offense. It may be 'just an infraction' but it still is the government shaming people and making it difficult to live a safe and open life. If a person doesn't want to be a sister wife or a husband of multiple women (or men) Or a women wants to have multiple husband, It should be their choice.  There are many reasons I could think of that it would be great to have a sister wife. I don't think I personally, would want brother husbands, full time though. lol. Well....maybe I would....hummmm....???

Key to my thinking is in this quote from the article:
"Instead, these government actions drove polygamous families underground into a shadow society where the vulnerable make easy prey. Branding all polygamists as felons has facilitated abuse, not eliminated polygamy."-Sen. Deidre Henderson

To bring the conversation to a place we all here on TER might understand to be a similar situation, here is a qoute from tha article from Open Democracy.
"The criminalization of sex work makes violence against sex workers appear normal. It prevents sex workers from calling the police, health care providers, and other sex workers when things go wrong. And it potentially classifies any sex worker-led organization as a criminal enterprise. Academic studies conducted by Cunningham and Shah of Baylor University and UCLA, and Bisschop, Kastoryano, and van der Klaauw of the Institute for the Study of Labor, show decreased sexual and physical violence among sex workers in decriminalized environments, as well as improved public health through lower rates of sexually transmitted infections and diseases." Decarceral alliances in the fight to decriminalize sex work. Ending mass incarceration and ending violence against sex workers are the same project.

Than men, its a good way for less-attractive women to be in a marriage situation.  If you ever see these types of families in real-life, the three or four women involved are usually barkers.  However, there are men who would be willing to sacrifice looks for having the variety at their disposal.

I agree 100% with GaG when it comes to underage girls in these situations.

I've been with hundreds of women, in most cases only once, so comparing that to being permanently with half a dozen or so just doesn't make it.
And, as GaGa pointed out, there's this "age of consent" issue. A 12-year-old can't consent to anything.

Because in polyamory, women have control over their bodily autonomy. Polygamy seems to be more of a male power trip. However, those seeking to decriminalize it may have a point. Just as FOSTA/SESTA pushed sex work further underground, and brought the pimps out of the woodwork,  it is entirely possible that criminalization of polygamy could make things more dangerous for vulnerable women in Moron country.

Polygamy means that a woman would rather share a rich man than have exclusivity with a poor one.
