"Investigators are now saying that Spitzer, 48, married and the father of three teenage daughters, may have spent as much as $80,000 to patronize prostitutes over the past six years."

While he was ruining lives of providers and hobbyists. Looks like the crater scenario is likely now. Good.

The only thing I wonder is how can someone who has been a prosecuting attorney not get the idea to use a disposable cell phone that you buy with cash?  I mean, it's not that hard.  And sure, they can get those too (as we found on HBO's superb show, The Wire), but they are unlikely to bother for prostitution, and if you throw them out regularly it is going to much more difficult for them to prove a pattern of behavior.

Spitzer was the target of the investigation of the beginning, because of his large money transfers. A prepaid cell phone wouldn't have helped him, since he was identified at the very beginning. The money trail wasn't hard to follow.  According to the criminal complaint, the Emperor's Club was already under investigation by local law enforcement. There was a confidential informant who exchanged information for imminuity--probably a prostitute that got popped and snitched. Law enforcement also had an undercover officer. The FBI had gotten wiretaps for the Emperor Club's phonelines and search and seizure warrants for bank records and assets. Names, dates, locations, and activities were all mentioned. I don't see how a different cell phone would have changed anything.

...since his wife will be making him do the pirp walk next.

I suppose that's the least of his worries.  The question is did he use his funds.....or governmental funds - and did he make his attempts to hide the transfers by limiting the amount to less than 5000 (forgot the legal term).

He could still be facing federal charges.
