Bonding Over Books

True intimacy can take unexpected turns, but I am guessing you are either having longer sessions or the clock doesn't matter. In either case, its great that you can gain the intensity from which you speak. In the case of being a VORACIOUS reader, I can see how you could get trapped into the depths of a story or plot, but when it all said and done, you are being quite VERACIOUS about what turns you on. Different words and different meanings.

whether providers or not, were avid readers.

There's something about reading that keeps the mind active and alert, and thus makes for a much more interesting association.

A post for avid readers that may bore those who are not book obsessed.

Reading another board, where people were sharing the books currently on their bedside table, I found myself daydreaming during a boring day at the office about all the times I've bonded with a gent over literature.

Probably the most memorable ones were the gentlemen who were fantastically talented writers, I would find myself elated as soon as I saw a message awaiting me.  As a hobby writer myself, replying to their letters became an inspirational challenge, and playing like that over time helped us crawl into each others heads (which is an amazing boost for sexual pleasure).

Gentlemen who see me regularly always exchange "Must Read" lists.  It's fascinating the sort of material I've been introduced to through the men I've met, books I never heard of, eclectic authors I would never have discovered on my own. It's also a unique way to explore the way they think, what intrigues them, and opens up their intellectual background.

One of the most enjoyable experiences was with a gentlemen who booked our first date many months in advance.  In an effort to get to know each other, we picked a book neither of us had read, and in the months leading up to our date, read it together.  Every week we'd read a certain number of pages, so that we were in tandem, and spent a great deal of time discussing the tragic character, the hidden symbolism, debated the meaning of it all.   It's fascinating to see how we each noticed completely different details and how it opened up conversations that allowed us to explore the other. By the time our first date came about it was like we were like old friend reuniting.

A gent I've known for over five years is as veracious a reader as I am.  When I spend a couple of weeks with him, we often pick a book to read together. I sit between his legs and he wraps his arms around my torso, our glasses of scotch in comfortable reach.  We read the pages together (in silence) and every once in a while I feel him nuzzle my hair, sneak a kiss, caress my skin.  It's a fantastically intimate experience, blushes of warmth sweeping through my body with these little flutters of affection.

I've also had lovely experiences reading to each other.  I'll be having a hot bath in a tub too small for two, and to keep me entertained he'll perch comfortably beside the bathtub and read aloud to me, so I don't get bored and the book doesn't get wet, then we switch.    The person in the tub is only allowed to hold the book and read out loud when the other is washing their back for them.

It's not at all what the vast majority of people want when they see a lady, but when you truly love exploring the world, past and present, and the universe of thought, through the beauty of the written word, it's an incredible experience to share on such intimate levels.

In a sense it opens up a whole new level of trust, and psychological intimacy.  When you can indulge so completely in each other, and the simple pleasures of life, we can blossom in each others arms.  A whole new level of intensity creeps into the sex, the flame of passion burning hotter between your caged stares when you're naked, in body and mind, wrapped around each other.

...I doubt I'd ever want to make them part of my foreplay.  However, in the spirit of your post, here are a few of my favorites.
Spooner, by Pete Dexter
The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
The Surrender, by Toni Bentley (not for its writing but for its bravery)
Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov (my all-time favorite book and, IMHO, the best novel ever written in English).
I also have written some erotica lately, that I've submitted to an anthology and I'm working on a new draft of a novel I'm sure will never be published.
I look forward to seeing the other suggestions you'll get.  Hold onto your hat!

I'm thinking of Erich Fromm's The Art of Love, more to be cute and perhaps a bit ironic, but I think the book is a wonderfully powerful book too.

I agree with you Mr. Fisher I am an avid reader and the people I have interacted with some are avid readers as well.I don't know how many times I have seen a gent and he has a book in his room or on the nightstand. For me it is a nice icebreaker if the guy is nervous and we have never met before I start a conversation regarding his book of choice which most of the time is a mystery thriller. One of my favorite authors James Patterson he seems to crank out books every other month I have found that at times the gentleman I am seeing is pleasantly surprised that I have read the book he has or is intending to read.Just one of many conversations to break the ice.

and I got to keep the book, too!

It was The Four Agreements - and it's made a difference in my life as well as how I might have provided (probably poorly, given the Hollywood images, lol).

1) Be Impeccable With Your Words
2) Don't Take Anything Personally
3) Don't Make Assumptions
4) Always Do Your Best

The second one has been the biggest help in my real life. Jolene isn't afraid of much, while in my real life I was (note I said WAS) afraid of so much, most notably other people's opinions about me. So, between being Jolene and taking the book to heart, I've grown as a person.

I have long held that the eroticism between one's ears is absolutely the equal of and in all the best cases the master of that within our loins.

I can only guess that you must be an exquisite companion whether for the briefest of times, an evening, a weekend or even more.

I was in Toronto last fall but alas I did not know you were there.  Had I, we could have toured the museums, picked up a couple of old masters in one of the shops on Yonge and had the most luxurious bath together.

As for my night table, most recently I just finished Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith (Soviet era crime thriller) and as just getting ready to read The Long Walk by Slavomir Rawicz (survival tale from the Soviet gulags).  Ludlum, Clancy and Dean Koontz are prominent on my bookshelf.

Keep reading, thinking, and doing all the other wonderful things you do!!!!

Happy days (and nights)!!!!

Especially if the topics of the books are stimulating.  I received one book from a gent that opened the doors for honest dialogue and open-minded discussion...

I think that is a great idea!

...I actually did bring a book to my first date with the gal who became my ATF.  It was Chelsea Handler's "My Horizontal Life."  Not exactly literature, but funny as hell.  My ATF, it turned out, is a hell of a book worm, in addition to being a total sex monster.

In a copy of The Happy Hooker, by Xavier Hollander.

Not that this particular provider needed ANY tips or suggestions mind you.   I just thought it would make for good conversation piece.   Turns out she had already read the book as a matter of fact.

I've picked up many books suggested by Ladies I've met.
This is great thread.

One of my favorites was an Antique copy of Ovid's Amours. I knew right away that he had read my website carefully to understand the significance of that book to me.

An excellent start.
