When a male (or female for that matter) has more choices of female to mate with, that would seem to bode well for more mating, not less.

It should also lead to a more diversified gene pool, which is good for the species and a happier species; which is even better.

What I think would be interesting to see is whether there is a correlation between having more sexual partners and longevity.  I think the more you can look forward to interesting and enjoyable sex, the longer you are going to want to stick around.

Such prigish comments have no place in scientific discourse.

So as hobbyists, we have many mates thus age faster or die young-   or

since we are not competing for mates as the article researches, maybe we stay younger and live longer since we keep ourselves in bliss?

Let's see what other justifications for the hobby I can come up with------   nah- none would hold a candle to FAF's eight reasons!

I always subscribed to the philosophy that almost everything people do is subconsciously geared towards sex and procreation; for the male of the species, this competition can be deadly!  Competition over women/girls/females takes many forms, from a male fire fighter rushing into a burning building, to a football player running for a touchdown, to any of the insane antics that young boys often do.  Think about that the next time you watch an episode of Jackass LOL.  Of course, a typical man and woman will probably live to be roughly the same age, but if you factor in all the men who died young while (subconsciously) trying to impress a girl or expand his "breeding rights," it drags the average age of death down.

OFF's eight reasons are self-explanatory.  We love females, and are ready to mate with them on a moments notice  More seriously, males in other mammilian species often fight to the death in order to obtain the privilege of mating, and the same applies to us humans, more figuratively than literally, but...

Thnakfully, there is no real competition in the hobby beyond booking the appointment.  After that, just show up with the donation, be clean and respectful, and you're good to go!  Height, wieght, Brad Pitt looks (so important in civvie world) are relative non-factors.  Maybe I'm just jaded from failed relationships in the past, but as a player here, I feel I have control over the process that I never had in civvie world in regards to choice.  I no longer have to worry about getting lucky based on random factors that I have little or no control over...I can make my own luck!
