My nominees are "Klute" & "Leaving Las Vegas". Any other suggestions ?

Both great movies, although "Leaving" is not a terribly fun movie to watch.  Sometimes when I am writing or reading reviews I think of the scene in Klute where Jane Fonda looks at her watch behind the guys back. Fantastic scene, although not what we would call a GFE.

When I was a kid there was a movie called "Never on Sunday" where Melina Mercouri played a provider who took Sundays off.  I was too young to know what the word "prostitute" meant, but I remember hearing it in reference to this movie and I knew she was some kind of shady character, but not really bad. LOL  Aren't we all.

the 1991 film Whore.  Russell has done a number of films portraying women who trod the more seamy side of sex....  Including the film "Black Widow" which pairs her against Debra Winger who plays a dept of Justice agent who becomes fascinated with the Russell character... the film is what it sets itself out to be - a story of a woman who marries for $ and then kills her prey....  

In all of these movies Russell projects a sexual energy that is rarely found in mainstream movies... and that is perhaps why she was not offered more competitive parts....

Don't forget the beautiful young Elizabeth Taylor in a 1960's movie about a high price call girl- Butterfield 8.

Ken Rusell,( "The Devils", "Altered States",
"Lair of the White Worm ), a director now largely forgotten, except by film buffs. He made some outrageously entertaining films in the 70's & 80's. A good example of this was 1984's "Crimes
of Passion", which featured Kathleen Turner as a provider & Tony Perkins as a nutcase who stalks her ( talk about typecasting ). I haven't thought of that film in years-----remember I loved it.

I was a young teen girl when I watched on TV for the first time.

I was mesmerized and I think it did influence my decision of being like the beautiful Catherine Deneuve...a whore during the day and a loving wife by night...lol

Still my favorite movie...but I agree on Theresa Russell...she has this sexual thing about her.

Eating Raoul.  Anyone remember it?

The lamest for sure: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.  It was more like a Texas version of The Sound of Music, without the good songs.

1)  Dangerous Beauty which was set in Venice

2)  Belle de Jour

3)  Leaving Las Vegas, but it was really more about alcoholism than prostitution

every time I see an iron skillet I remember how they used to wack the clients...lol

After all, a movie career doesn't last forever!

She was the strongest character on "John from Cincinatti" recently aired on HBO.

here in the UK, there is a TV series based on the experiences of a provider using that name.  If you can trick the web into thinking you are based in the UK, which can be done, you watch the episodes online.

... And it also depends on what you'd define as a "provider movie."  My favorite movie featuring providers as characters would have to be Unforgiven.  Just an exceptional movie.  I also like Pretty Woman, Risky Business, and Leaving Las Vegas.  

But let's be honest: neither Pretty Woman nor Leaving Las Vegas are particularly realistic.  For one thing, Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Shue are both WAY too attractive to be working the streets.  Julia isn't really my type, but I know the whole world basically pops a woody whenever she's on-screen, and all those people can't be wrong.  

The most realistic movie about providers I have ever seen is a POS (Piece Of Shit) straight-to-cable movie called L.A. Johns.  I've mentioned this movie before, because I've actually met a couple of girls exactly like the protagonist.

His wife, Giulietta Masina plays a fiesty, naive lady of the evening. Yes, there is heartache as is the theme of most tragic romantic dramas but there is also a sweetness to the film. In the sadness there is also laughter.

Be sure to see the uncut version which has the "the man with the sack." In the late 80's when I saw "Nights of Cabiria" in Madrid the scene with the man with the sack reminded me of los Gitanos (gypies). I was humbled because I too was naive of caste systems we ourselves have. There is more I can say of this remarkable and touching film but it's best you see for yourself.

I had the same experience as a kid  with the flic 'Irma La Douce."

This was released in 1964, I had just turned 8, and the 60s, as a counterculture thing, hadn't yet started.  You could not bring a kid to that flick, even though it's just a harmless and mindless farce.

I asked my goofbal parents, "why not?"  They were at a loss for words.  They couldn't explain prostitution without havig to explain sex beforehand.  It was beyond them, as any undertanding of human sexuality would have been on my part.

"Working Girls"  [1987], somewhat forgotten -- a day in the life of a Manhattan incall.

He owed her $300 for the whole night. Was that the going rate for someone like her 20 whatever years ago when it was made?
