Oh, that's easy. Good for nothing eastern women moved West to capitalize on liberties won by the prostitutes and brought their moral values (i.e. Freudian insecurities) along.
Here is another reason why "proper women" feel so threatened by working girls. "Normal" people always feel threatened by the adventurers and the pioneers.
If you go to most countries where legal prostitution is under fire today, usually you will find the feminists behind it, NOT the church.
Costa Rica is a great example, as is Colombia. In Costa Rica believe it or not it's the fucking "gringas" that are putting all the pressure on the putas, they hate the fact their man can go "get it" somewhere else for less than the cost of dinner.
In Colombia, Bogota in particular, some of the best whoring spots have been "gentrified" and now Colombian Yuppie couples are running all the fun places out of the neighborhood because they don't want to look at it.
There are a lot of other examples I can think of, but they all make your case, "proper women" want to control their men with sex and they can't do that when there are hookers around.
There was a woodpecker in my neighborhood who sounded like a motorcycle engine. Not peck-peck-peck but bzzz ... bzzz ... bzzz. He must have been a hundred peckered woodpecker.

EDIT: Something related came up in General a few days ago and it was mentioned that Prostitution grew rapidly (x10 or more) during the Civil War and then followed troops, explorers, Gold Rushers, and others during the westward expansion (as the video shows). Gives new meaning to "Westward, Ho!!"
