I enjoy DATY a lot. It's a great way to connect and show my appreciation for my ATF. I was wondering what you all thought of the potential hazards of this (STD, etc).

Yes, this question comes up often. Your best bet would be to do a search on the newbie board. You will find a wealth of info there. You also won't need to worry about getting blasted for asking a question and bothering some of the less tolerant folks. good luck.
...and for the rest of you guys, please remember that we were all newbies at one time and probably asked similarly redundant questions then - cut the guy a break!!!
As suggested, go to FAQ for newbies and check out the two STD links, also as worthless as CL is, the link to SF Clinic on Craig's List is excellent on the subject.
Bottom line- there is risk in DATY and BBBJ but significantly less than unprotected vaginal penetration and contact. My interpretation of reading these two sites: HIV is rarely if ever passed orally, Herpes is quite limited in passing the genital strain to the mouth and vice-versa. Genital warts, gonnorhea, trych, syphillis can be but also less frequent in oral sex.
Bottom line- only risk free behavior is abstinance- and you have to read the sites yourself to decide what you can tolerate risk-wise. On the bright side- some providers and hobbyists with hundreds of contacts with reputable and referenced members of the hobby community have indicated in past posts that they have never caught anything this way.
...but seriously, the risks are there but very low. This stated, I find more often than not, when I hobby, I often end up with a cold the next day or so. Well worth the trouble though.
