I usually book late morning appointments so I’ll bring some snacks for us to enjoy: fruits, cheese, meat and crackers. I’ll bring a bottle of wine that they can either enjoy during our date or save for another time as I no longer drink alcohol. Sometimes I will get them a gift card for Amazon or somewhere I know they like to go to and if not a gift card then I always bring a tip, usually an extra Benjamin.

No, neither of us. I was a practicing lawyer. She (the notorious and endlessly funny Emma Bond; I'm sure you'll remember her) was visiting the city. I had the day off except for a court appearance I had to make in the afternoon. So I took her along for fun and had her sit in the gallery. The judge, who was a woman, assumed Emma was a lawyer from my office and insisted that she join me at counsel table. She did, I finished the hearing; the judge thanked us both, and we went for a slice of pizza.
