Last week someone texted my wife saying that they had information about me cheating on her with escorts. I convinced her that it was a scam due to the amount of information publicly available about me.  Is this happening to anyone else?  A search of the phone number doesn’t reveal anything.

But in this case, it's from a rather stupid scammer.  Usually, they would text you first threatening to text your wife UNLESS you pay.  

Did they ask anything from her in return? Unless they’re trying to get something out of it, it’s not a scam, or it’s an idiot who doesn’t know how to scam. The fact this person went directly to her sounds more like someone who has it out for you.

As mentioned some scam/blackmail attempt is not going to contact your wife first, largely makes asking for money to stay silent a completely moot point. Seems like it might be an odd way to go but maybe they think your wife would be more ashamed if news of the cheating were to become known so might pay to keep it quite. I would not expect that approach though.

I get them all the time on my burner phone. Someone named Ogarra texts the same template....... etc.....

I appreciate the feedback.  I have been extremely cautious in my conduct and the only people who knows I have seen an escort is other escorts.  And, my activity lately has been very limited, but I am going to lay low for a while now.  I did try another search of the phone number and it came back with "highly suspicious" as an indicator of spam.

Please tell me you are using a burner phone, or at least a non-traceable voip phone/text app.

The scammed likely has no idea who your wife is married to.  I bet the idea is to get her to buy something, or to force you to prove your innocence to her by buying what they have.  Maybe it is sort of smart.

If you are in an upper or middle management position it could be someone you know----fired anyone lately? Disappointed anyone by turning down time off, or a raise, cancelling vacation plans, are you screwing the wife of an employee, the possibilities are endless !  (See where I'm going with this?_

could be someone she knows (if it's a man) who will proposition her for Revenge Sex.  Okay, it doesn't have to be a man, but that means you might have bigger problems you don't know about.  

If you are a profile on PD, check if your number is listed. A guy recently mentioned someone texting them pretending to be me…a few days later I noticed he wrote a review I didn’t comment on..and his profile publicly showed his number. Takes a few google searches to get info on you if that’s the case!
