Do you realize that there is no such thing as a "sex change operation"?  It is a misnomer.  It should be called "sex disguise operation".  The operation does NOT change your sex, but it disguises your sex as being the opposite gender?  So whatever your sex is, you are the same sex after such operation.  Your sex did NOT change but only the appearance did.  It is no different that a woman wearing a fake mustache and then call herself a man.  Or a man wearing a long wig and a dress and then call himself a woman.

I'd say he's trying to convince himself of something.

The male has the XY chromosome; the female has the XX chromosome.  After the surgery, the chromosome does not change meaning the sex of the person did not actually change. Only the appearance changed, not the sex of the person.

As a society we generally label and sort people's gender by the plumbing that they sport. If everything physical about a person is of the opposite sex except a chromosome, I think it's fair to say that that person is correctly labeled as that of the opposite gender. You're splitting hairs with the chromosome argument. If someone is born left-handed but is forced or taught to use their right hand as their preferred hand for the rest of their life....are they still left-handed? No they are now right-handed even though they were "born" left-handed. Not the greatest analogy I know but it's the best I can do on short notice
